Khary and Lege Kale push emotional buttons on their latest track, “Stronger.”
The purple cover art remains heavily drug connoted and adds to the vibe that the song is so effortlessly suffused with. The name of the game is unrequited love, and Khary & Lege Kale offer up the promise that they’re remaining strong- and getting stronger- through the matters of the heart they’re so reluctantly facing.
The ethereal instrumental reverberates in the background as the duo turn sensual cravings into sonics- and do a great job. A lazy melody playing in the background, arbitrary disruptions in the instrumentals, and soft singing decorating the track make for an emotional song about a quotidian struggle in most people’s lives. “Love me, you say you love me but you don’t/call me, do not call me on my phone,” are the first words spoken in the sing-song hook, before continuing to state the aforementioned strength, and erupting into a rap ballad. Rapid fire bars about the woman in question will be sure to stir up the feelings in any listener.
Interestingly enough, the bass/side chaining pattern is extremely reminiscent of a dance song, adding on to this “better than thou, stronger than thou” attitude being tinged on the track.
Keep on a lookout for the duo’s upcoming EP, Tidal Graves, which, given the name, will most likely be filled with similar haunting ballads as the one we were teased with now.
