HBO’s Big Little Lies trailer has been released. The 7 episode comedic miniseries is set to premiere in February 2017 in the US. Jean-Marc Vallée, director of Wild and Dallas Buyers Club, will be directing the series starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgård, James Tupper, Laura Dern, Adam Scott and Zoë Kravitz.
The series is based off the novel of the same name. However, the novel takes place in Sydney Australia while the series takes place in the US.
Book Summary: Based on a description of Moriarty’s book, Madeline is as a newly divorced mom who’s kindergartner ends up in the same class as her ex-husband and his new wife’s daughter. Celeste is a mom of twin boys, who is trying to be the head of the school’s PTA with her husband but she is dealing with some family issues under the surface and isn’t sure how much more she can take. Jane is a young single mom who’s new in town and quickly becomes friends with Celeste and Madeline. Jane, however, has “secret doubts about her son” and brings a bit of trouble with her when she arrives in town.
Big Little Lies follows a group of moms whose perfect lives begin to unravel. According to IMDB, “While Madeline (Witherspoon) and Celeste (Kidman) take new in town single mom Jane (Woodley) under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all. Big little lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.”
In the trailer Witherspoon is seen looking out at the ocean next to a little girl who wants to know what she sees when she looks at the beautiful blue water. Kidman seems to be living a life of glitz and glam, and Woodley drew the short-stick and is dealing with some turmoil.
A gunshot is heard in the trailer and the women cover their mouths with looks of horror on their faces. Someone is probably dead. But who? One of their husbands? A child?
