Singer/songwriter Vedo comes from a long list of credible musical accomplishments, including contributions on two of Chris Brown’s LPs (Heartbreak on a Full Moon and Indigo). It’s no surprise his latest release “Yvette” is highly anticipated. In true R&B fashion, the first verse of “Yvette” came from a free-style. VEDO envisioned scenes from the 2001 movie Baby Boy specifically the romance between characters Joseph Summers and Yvette. He knew he wanted to depict that kind of raw yet committed storyline, one of fighting, breaking up, and them making up.

His playful lyrics are supported by references from the film (I put it down, you know how this goes / then when we done she fix them tacos), and the track which features singer Inayah Lamis. She candidly closes the song out as if she was Yvette (Taraji P. Henson). VEDO was searching for a very particular kind of feature: “She had to be ghetto but classy, nasty but sexy. I needed a chick that could cuss me out! But when it’s all said and done, let it be known you ain’t goin’ nowhere.”

Balancing his passion for music and acting, Kendricks is proving to be a double-edged sword that the industry will soon be familiar with. During the interview, we had the opportunity to ask Corr Kendricks about his HARDCORR album, traveling the country, and working with legends such as Taraji P. Henson. Read Corr Kendrick’s RESPECT. interview below.

How long have you lived in Chicago? We’re sure you travel often for acting opportunities, but what city or cities have been your favorite to visit?

I’ve lived in Chicago for about 4 years now since moving back home from the East Coast.

When I was younger I moved around a lot. It started here and Chicago then I hit Milwaukee then Philly then Jersey then back home to the Chi.

One of your most popular songs is “Demeanor” featuring Fred da Godson. How did you connect with the New York rapper?

Me and Fred linked up threw a mutual friend that connected us. We got the record done and it was a smooth vibe. Just business and good times. Fred a good dude.

How do you feel like you’ve grown since release releasing that single in 2016?

I’ve grown a lot since that single. Just things I deal with on a daily you know life situations will cause that…. and if it’s no change it’s no growth. I’m all about elevating to the next level being my best self!

Your latest project HARDCORR is out, and available everywhere. How long did it take you to record and master everything?

To be honest, HARDCORR was done years ago. I worked on HARDCORR years before Empire and years after Empire. It’s something I been holding on for awhile just cause I wanted to give it my all you know….I have so much music it was just all about getting the right vibes for the project…. The name wasn’t even HARDCORR in the beginning stages lol gotta thank the OG D Dot aka THE MAD RAPPER he def had hands in the creative process at the time so salute to him. But once we figured out what songs will be placed it took a day or less but the project was done years ago..

From listening to the project, we can tell you’re a very driven, passionate, individual. What was the inspiration for Hardcorr ?

The inspiration for this project was my kids and life situations at the time. I was going threw being homeless at the time and dealing with a bad break up. I was moving far away from my kids..it was just a lot I took on and was going threw…. and you will hear more in depth stuff on the next wave of music, trust me.

Is there a specific song on the album that’s your favorite? If so, what is it, and why?

“Make it Out” is my favorite and “Welcome to My Life” cause it really shines light on things I experienced growing up as a child and as a young adult. It’s my truth that most people don’t know about me…. the abuse and shelters just everything.

What was it like working alongside Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson and more on the set of “EMPIRE?”

Working with Terrance Howard for the first time ever was intimidating and amazing The reason why is cause during rehearsals I messed up on a couple lines and he hit me with the (Jerome Get him outta here lol ) so me already being nervous and now I’m messing up lines I felt like they was gonna ask me to leave set lmao…. but na, Terrance is a very good dude he helped me own the character of “Black Rambo.” He gave me great pointers while on set..him and Malik Yoba….

Taraji is amazing. She’s like my big sister, you know? I ask her advice on things and she always helps me whether it’s with characters and how to let myself go and be that character you know she always dropping jewels so I’m always learning from both the vets and who else better to learn from in this business on the acting side

Have you learned anything from your experience acting that you’ve applied when navigating through the music industry?

Well funny enough with acting you have to pretty much let go drop the ego be Vulnerable and let the expressions and emotions flow. Just like with music your not thinking about anything or anyone feelings I write music and zone out I release the anger frustration stress it’s all let out in the music so with acting it’s the same your not even you when acting but the emotions and feelings your putting into the character is you.

You’re currently playing the role of Yosh on Showtime’s “The Chi,” which is co-executive produced by Common. How did you come about this opportunity and does it feel special to be a part of a show based in Chicago?

Well this opportunity came about through my agent. I had to audition just like everyone else… it was a lot of good guys at the audition but what god has for you nobody can take I got the call back that they wanted me so I’m very blessed take nothing for granted…. It just feels amazing to be part of something amazing telling our story on a daily in the city things mothers fathers brothers etc go threw here in Chicago so I feel blessed I really do

If there’s anyone in the entertainment industry that’s having a great year, it’s Bronx, New York’s Cardi B.

The Love & Hip Hop NY alum has been on the grind these last few years proving the haters wrong with the success of her music. She was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards and she’s been charting left and right with her latest releases. Her newest single, Bodak Yellow is being widely praised and it’s already taking her to another level. In addition to her musical industry success, powerful women of the entertainment industry like Solange Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and more has taken notice of her shine.

As it turns out, Cardi B’s celebrity supporter list has grown once again. Award-winning actress and star of Fox’s hit drama Empire is also very proud of Cardi B and has reached out to congratulate her. Taraji P. Henson commented under Cardi’s latest Instagram post to share some heartfelt words that made the young MC pretty emotional. Cardi proudly screenshotted the comment and shared a caption saying Taraji’s words made her want to go ever harder. Check out Cardi B’s screenshot below!

When Terrance Sims asked Ambrielle-Baker Rogers, Morgan Coleman and Miah Bell-Olson to participate in a Black History Month project at Milwaukee College Prep, I’m sure he had no idea that one of the projects would go viral. Per Jerrica Rogers, mother of Ambrielle Baker-Rogers– who spoke with The Huffington Post —Sims wanted to create a series of posters that positively affirmed the excellence of his students as well as shine light on the beauty of African-American culture in preparation for Black History Month and by looking at the re-created poster above, I would say the mission was definitely accomplished.

The three beauties, who received help from their moms to dress up as the iconic figures, had their photo taken and added to the Hidden Figures poster that features Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae and Octavia Spencer. Rogers thought the picture was so astounding she shared it to her Facebook page and it went viral sparking the attention of Henson, Monae and Spencer. All three women commented on the photo:

The girls enjoyed dressing up for the project as well as seeing the movie Hidden Figures so much so they saw it twice! Talk about getting into character. Hidden Figures is now playing nationwide at a theater near you.

We all know that 50 Cent stays being petty when championing his show Power over rival TV series Empire. 

On numerous occasions 50 has not been afraid to be vocal about how he thinks Power is far superior to Empire. Often caught in the firing line-up has been Taraji P. Henson who plays Cookie on Empire.

With season 3 of the musical drama show well underway as of last week, 50 Cent decided to take a jab at Henson on Instagram:

“Well look at the bright side at least. You can eat your trophies…I was talking to old girl but you felt like you had to respond. SMH you know I love you cookie. I got a new show for you BMF COMING SOON !!!#EFFENVODKA.”

50 has since deleted his post. But his comments certainly caught the eye of of Henson who decided to put a post up in response to Fiddy. In her post she asked people to “do REAL research” in reference to which TV show is having more success.

The real test of the shows remains to be seen as Empire makes its way through the season. Tonight is also the season finale of Power which airs at 9pm EST on STARZ.

The movie will star Taraji P. Henson as Katherine G. Johnson, Octavia Spenser as Dorothy Vaughan, and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson as they work at NASA fighting the gender and racial biases against them. The women being portrayed were key mathematicians and engineers in the space program, though their work had not been widely credited.  According to the NY Times, the movie is to be based on the book written by Margot Lee Shetterly, who knew Ms. Johnson but didn’t know about the extent of her involvement with NASA until her father had mentioned it one day.

Donna Gigliotti offered for the rights to the book after reading Shetterly’s proposal and offered her reasoning for doing so:

For Ms. Gigliotti, the “Hidden Figures” story line had everything and more: the Cold War, the space race, the damages of segregation and racial and gender inequality, all set against the country’s burgeoning civil rights struggles.

The movie is set to be released January 13, 2017, and the trailer is available to watch below.
