A few of the DJs celebrated that night will be Mustafa Rocks, Boi Jeanius, Jay Illa, DJ Word, MANO, DJ Pharris, O Zone along with special guest DJ’s will perform a tribute remembering Timbuck2’s legacy and contribution to the hip-hop culture.  Following the legacy of his contribution to the culture, Timothy Francis Jones Foundation and PUMA is releasing a signature collab sneaker in honor of Timbuck2 with a percentage of the proceeds donated to the foundation.

The Timothy Francis Jones Foundation was founded at the request of Timothy Jones who succumbed to renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) in 2015. Their mission is to promote self-health awareness amongst men and specifically men of color. With this in mind, Timothy Francis Jones Foundation helps shed the stigma of seeking health care, tackle gender and race – based barriers to accessing care while providing educational opportunities through online content, strategic partnerships and community based opportunities.

Described in Billboard as an amazing person and talent by Kanye West and “Awesome DJ,” according to Just Blaze, “even better human being.” DJ Timbuck2 was one of the most respected DJ’s to not only grace the city of Chicago but the hip-hop culture. Touching many lives through music, Timbuck2 was not your average DJ, with multiple influences of hip-hop his technique with the turntables, he always seen it as an opportunity to educate hip hop. Common recalled memorable evenings spent listening to the turntablist, concluding that he was “one of the most talented and gifted DJs ever!” Known for putting Chicago talent on the local radio, Timbuck2 was one of the biggest supporters of the Chicago music movement, working as a tour DJ for major artist including West, Common and Lupe Fiasco.

Blessed to have attended, the Red Bull Music Festival continued November 21st, 2019 with none other than Lupe Fiasco. Sold out on a Thursday, it was hands down a night to remember and one for the books. 

Hosted at The Riviera Theater in Chicago, opening acts arose from Kidd Kenn, Two Depressed Kids, and The Twilite Tone. These three acts set the mood for Lupe Fiasco to own the stage and he did just that. 

Chicago-born rapper, Lupe Fiasco gave the crowd a passionate performance of a lifetime, reciting his entire 2006 album Food & Liquor. An album that touched millions of listeners in 2006, Lupe Fiasco was able to reciprocate the same feelings and energy back to his hometown 13 years later. A magical night for Chicago, Fiasco’s performance lasted around 2 hours and included a charismatic band featuring horns and violins. Cinematic, holding nothing back, Lupe Fiasco delivered an intimate, three minute speech (outro) towards the end of the show.

Lupe Fiasco appeared on stage the whole time in a Bulls jersey stamped with his name on the back. Thanks to Red Bull for hosting the Grammy Award-winning rapper, Lupe Fiasco, Chicago could appreciate once more what Lupe has done for the music industry with just this one classic album as well as the path he paved for all the artists to come after him. Overall, an impressive and aesthetically pleasing show, I would definitely give it a five out of five stars. 

The Red Bull Music Festival continues in the beautiful and musically talented city of Chicago through November 30th. With this being the third day, please check the website for more details and tickets on upcoming performances.

Machine Gun Kelly – Binge

After some sparring with a certain Detroit legend, Machine Gun Kelly is capitalizing properly with his new EP Binge, which sees nine tracks and a sole assist from 24hrs. The project also features the scathing Eminem diss “Rap Devil” (unfortunately, there’s no actual response to Em’s “KILLSHOT,” which many of us counted on).

Somehow, we managed to almost forget about Lupe Fiasco, who delivered his latest project Dragas Wave — a 24 track release (divided by Side A and Side B) that features guest appearances from Damien Marley, (frequent collaborator) Nikki Jean, Crystal Torres and more.

The well-received UK film The Intent gets a sure-to-be-dope sequel, and — of course — the soundtrack isn’t anything to play with, either. Post-Charlottesville, EVERYBODY has something to say. In politics, in sports and pop culture. Add another name to that list: Chicago’s Lupe Fiasco.

Released to RESPECT Magazine Friday afternoon, ‘Fiaso released the video to, Made In The USA’ a cut from his Drogas Light.

“This song is more than two years old,” Fiasco told me via Twitter. “More like a recognition of business as usual.”

Added Lupe Fiasco:

The Boy Illinois has been progressing over the years. On a recent conversation on Scoop B Radio Overtime, The Boy Illinois and I talked about how cool it was to open up concerts for fellow Chicago lyricist, Lupe Fiasco. “It was amazing,” The Boy Illinois told me about opening for Lupe Fiasco on Scoop B Radio.

“First of all, that’s one of my favorite artists. It was dope because he is one of my favorite artists and it was like: ‘damn I’m about to open up the whole tour for this guy.’ And you just soak up game. Like the first show in Atlanta, I just sat and watched his whole set up and sound check like I was just amazed. I had never been at a level of this magnitude. So I’m trying to learn everything that I can but then after like the 10th show it was like: ‘I don’t even want to see your show no more because it’s the same shit every night.’ But after a while you kind of get the hang of it and I’m a quick learner and I pick up things quick.”

Last year saw a lot of weird moments from Lupe Fiasco, mainly in regards to his career…the Chicago Rap veteran bounced from prepping three new albums to retiring completely (with debatably good reason). Now, it looks like Lupe is back to release his new album DROGAS Light, which — as the tracklisting reveals — sees some sure-to-be dope appearances from Rick Ross, Victoria Monet, Big K.R.I.T., Ty Dolla $ign & more.

In addition, said album (of which you can see the artwork above) is now available for pre-order on iTunes. Those that lock in their copy will instantly get the new track “Wild Child”, which features Jack Torrey and follows previous drops “Pick Up The Phone” & “Made In The USA” (featuring Bianca Sings). Upon initial listen, “Wild Child” sounds reminiscent of the Pop-friendly Lasers released back in 2011.
