Nipsey Hussle might be gone in the physical sense, but he’ll never be forgotten.

Today DJ Khaled delivered his 11th album Father Of Asahd. Featured on that track is a now-posthumous cut with Nipsey and John Legend titled “Higher”; its accompanying music video ensures that the late Hip-Hop star remains in fans’ thoughts.

In the Eif Rivera-directed video (50 Cent, French Montana, Lil Wayne), we first see an opening tribute to Nipsey, who lost his life on March 31st in a senseless shooting outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. The music video was cut just days before his death, and it’s said to be Nipsey’s final performance captured on film.

Indie singer Lanita Smith recently released her debut album Remember Me. As a singer and songwriter, Smith’s raw talent is showcased all throughout this project. Last month she released two hit singles titled “Love Can Do” and Tell Me Why” that can both be heard on Remember Me.

The most impressive thing about this release is that it truly reminds you of what good music sounds like. Smith’s soulful, sultry voice mixed with her unique sound, propels her debut body of work to new heights. She describes her sound as an alternative pop-soul R&B crossover, with influences from Tracey Chapman, John Legend and John
Meyer.

Brittany: What inspired you to embark on a career in music?

Lanita: Music has been my first love since before I could remember. As a child, I knew music would forever be apart of my life, but I didn’t understand then to what capacity. As I got older, music was the one thing I always remained passionate about.

Brittany: As this is your debut album, what does it mean to you?

Lanita: It’s a sigh of relief. I’ve been waiting to release my baby to the world for a while and now that I have it’s like I’m a ball of
emotions, but I have a sense of peace because I truly gave the world Lanita in this album.

Brittany: What role has being named the 2016 Annual Guitar Center Songwriter of the Year Played in your life?

Lanita: It opened a lot of doors for me and started my career as an artist. I was able to debut my first EP on Jimmy Kimmel Live! I know that’s not normal, but the fact that I was able to do that and work with the legendary Don Was is beyond amazing and I’ll be forever grateful for it!

Brittany: What do you want the world to know about you and your music?

Lanita: The world is getting the authentic, raw version of Lanita Smith. I often say if track 1 doesn’t knock at your door, then by the time you get to track 13, I should be sitting at the table with you.

I want this album to leave a lasting impression on people, which is why it’s entitled Remember Me. I want Remember Me to be that feel good, get in your car and go, just because, tell my story, timeless, vibes all day album.

The clip — which is unfortunately sans the song’s feature, Chance The Rapper — sees Legend playing as a hotel employee to plays witness to a lot of the unrest, hate and ignorance that we’re all seeing unfold in front of us on the television screen as well as in our own neighborhoods. Chance adds a poignant verse that starts with a knock-knock joke and ends with another that hits home for his peers:

He said “What happened to the boy that climbed up the trunk?”
Then he pushed me off the top and said “Jump, n***a, jump!”

Although John Legend is currently on tour promoting his latest album Darkness and Light, he will use his creative prowess to develop a music-based program for Netflix. According to Variety, the show—titled Rhythm & Flow—will be the first of its kind for the giant streaming service. Rhythm & Flow‘s format of an unscripted talent competition pits rappers against each other while also shifting focus on soul and R&B music.

John Legend is slated to team up with former NBC network executive Jeff Gaspin. Both Legend’s Get Lifted Film company and Gaspin’s Primary Wave Entertainment will produce the competition series. Both men previously collaborated on the WGN America cancelled slavery drama, Underground.

Legend’s team-up with Gaspin is a smart move. Gaspin is responsible for having developed  VH1’s “Behind the Music”, NBC’s “The Apprentice”, “The Biggest Loser”, and “The Voice” in addition to and Bravo’s “Project Runway.”

No official word yet if John Legend will play another role on the show besides producer.

Get your whips and chains ready: the forthcoming sequel to the erotic drama Fifty Shades Of Grey — titled Fifty Shades Darker — will be arriving in theaters February 10th. In lieu of the film’s release, we now get to see the star-studded line-up for its soundtrack, which includes Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, The-Dream, John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae, Halsey, Tove Lo and more. The soundtrack is also led by the Zayn (Malik) and Taylor Swift collaboration, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”, released last month.

John Legend‘s ‘Darkness And Light‘ album was released today and has a few special appearances. A duet with a sweet melody that stands out is his collaboration, “Overload,” with singer/song writer, Miguel.

The two Grammy Award-winning singers come together to talk about the struggles of maintaining a relationship in the spotlight. Both R&B singers are in serious relationships that is closely watched by the media and public. John Legend and model wife, Chrissy Teigen, welcomed their first child together, Luna Simone Stephens and Miguel and long-time girlfriend Nazanin Mandi got engaged.

The track starts off with a slow acoustic tune with Legend’s voice reminiscing of how it all was in the beginning. “Yeah we used to flirt with freedom ‘fore everybody knew our name / We became their favorite secret, love for love and not for fame,” he sings. Then Miguel comes in on the second verse choosing to ignore the distractions singing “Let that cellphone ring, let that bluebird sing, let that message say I’m red /  Let them talk about us, let them talk too much while we rule the world from our bed.”
