Low-Fi Hip-Hop has always been around, but has had sort of an uprising the last few years. After providing the initial peek into the the sound with artists like SpaceGhostPurpp and a young A$AP Rocky, newcomers like Suicideboys, Pouya and most notably XXXTentacion have created mainstream lanes in the genre, taking It from the underground to the forefront of Pop Culture. Cut from the same cloth, albeit a bit more lyrical, North Las Vegas native Jerry Shinefield takes full advantage of the craze and drops off his bass-heavy, lyrically dense debut album, H.O.E. (Hell On Earth).
Although the project is only six tracks — which more often than not would qualify It as an EP — Shinefield effortlessly floats over the screwed up, synth-drenched production provided by 45 & PaqboyGrazi, who handle all of the albums production. On tracks like, “Honestly” & “89032,” Jerry showcases what makes his music so infectious, whether it’s the easy-to-chant-along chorus in “Honestly,” or his undying loyalty to his city on the latter track. With the project being so short, both in the total amount of tracks and the length of each individually, H.O.E. serves as more of an appetizer than a meal. Though the tracks are without a doubt fulfilling and intriguing, there’s still a desire to receive more–which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in today’s climate of microwave-like attention spans.
Check out the the album below, and be sure to keep an eye on the Northtown native, who’s sure to turn some heads in 2018.
