Atlanta, Georgia has long been a stable place for young, black artists to flourish in their music careers. Ever since Outkast infamously belted out, “The Souf got something to say!” at The Source Awards — following loud jeers after winning award — it seems as if ATL has been on fire. With that being said, it could also be seen as an area that’s congested and overflowing with talent, making it hard to be noticed. This is where the, “big fish in a little pond” theory is put into play, often an effective one. Atlanta to Las Vegas transplant, J Word, is looking to make waves in the sinful waters with his soulful new cut, “Hang Up.”
Speaking on the crafting of the record, the South native had this to say, “Honestly I have been doing music for a long time and they are mostly slower tracks. I get a lot of feed back from fans or people who listen to my music and I finally took the time to write this one for my friend in Finland.” Word continued, “People were asking me do I have any upbeat tracks and this is what came out. It definitely can relate to all age groups because we all have that one person that continues to text or call you when you know you not trying to mess with them.”
With a knack for catchy melodies and infectious songwriting, J Word is definitely on the path to being somebody to keep your eye on. Check out, “Hang Up” here and be sure to follow the Atlanta rep on social media.
