74-year-old Rock legend Mick Jagger is back in the limelight (not that he ever left) with two new singles: “Gotta Get A Grip” and “England Lost.” Both tracks come with visuals and center upon the feelings we’re all dealing with in regards to “the times we live in.”
The latter of the two, “England Lost,” also features assistance from Boy Better Know frontman and Grime pioneer Skepta…Jagger explained the collaboration (source):
Right from the off when I started writing “England Lost,” I imagined having a British rapper on the track… Skepta stepped in at a moment’s notice and I just loved what he did.
He also broke down the meaning behind “England Lost,” which starts with seeing his team lose in soccer (football), but also “insecurity” and “a sense of vulnerability of where we are as a country.” “Gotta Get A Grip” steers more toward getting on with our lives in the midst of the craziness happening around us.
