In a league where the triple double comes often for certain players, a lot of NBA stars have not received a lot of attention. These underrated players are all over the league, however aren’t recognized because of the lack of press remaining. The majority of the positive recognition is placed on players such as James Harden, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, etc. Here are some of the most underrated players in the NBA.
Isaiah Thomas
In my opinion, Isaiah Thomas is the best point guard in the Eastern Conference. Averaging 29.4 points per game is only the tip of the iceberg. Surprisingly, in the 44 games that Thomas has played in, he scored at least 20 points in all but one. In that one game against the Golden State Warriors, he scored 18 points. Not many know, Thomas is second in the league in scoring behind Russell Westbrook. He has been demolishing the NBA, however is not considered a contender for a championship. Because of this, people rather choose Kyrie Irving over Thomas. But in my opinion, numbers speak volumes.
Hassan Whiteside
Being the defensive presence Whiteside is, it is hard to find a statistic that shows his true value. The only defensive statistic that proves a front court player’s worth is blocks, where he is fourth in the league. Along with the two blocks he averages per game, he also averages 13 rebounds placing him 3rd in the league in the statistic. The only two players ahead of him are Deandre Jordan and Andre Drummond who average .1 rebounds more. Its a shame that the Miami Heat are not contenders for a title. If they were, Hassan Whiteside would receive more recognition.
Joel Embiid
At first, I was reluctant to place Joel Embiid onto an underrated list. I believe people understand most of the potential that he possesses for the Philadelphia 76ers. However, I don’t think people understand the full potential of this man. Let me explain. The center currently averages 20.2 points per game with 7.8 rebounds. Looking at these numbers, it may be hard to understand why he may be considered underrated. There is one statistic that makes his potential rise a significant amount, minutes played. With him recovering from foot surgeries, he has been placed on minute restrictions. On these strict minute assignments, he still produces number better than half of the league. Imagine what he would do if he plays more minutes. He is the best developing center in the NBA. You better trust the process!
