Redolent of Biggie‘s “Suicidal Thoughts,” which capped off Ready to Die as a reminder of the tribulations and lack of mental homeostasis in the life of a hustler in poverty, Buddha GXD drops a raw look into his mind, unapologetically littering his emotions and despondency throughout the πrex produced instrumental.
Voices reverberate hauntingly in the background to help push to murky aesthetic further into its place in the song’s dark puzzle, with all the lyrical pieces describing Buddha’s relationship with his peers and parents, and how his negative experiences and reactions fostered an equally crestfallen outlook.
“Imagine how I feel walkin’ with a loaded gun/no sleep at night, feelin’ like a n**ga gonna run,” details the paranoia combatted daily by individuals engaged in the life of uphill struggles in impoverished neighborhoods, where the objective is to survive, even if it means tearing apart those around you. The subject matter has shocking irrelevance in the scope of trap music, which details ideas like self-medication, gang violence, and instability, yet greets it with embellishment rather than rawness and honesty as Buddha does so effortlessly here. The fact of the matter is, it’s very easy, and very common, to have the thoughts he’s speaking so vividly of when life is centered around the aforementioned concepts and patterns.
“Suicide Thoughts” is coming off Outta Nowhere, which is set to come out sometime in late 2017. You can follow Buddha GXD on Twitter & Instagram.
