After all of the hype over the incredibly popular hip-hop musical Hamilton, the numerous fans are excited over the news about the mixtape that will be released this year.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is working with Questlove on a mixtape that will provide new versions of songs from the original musical. In an interview the two performers had with Vanity Fair, they say that “Half the songs are cover versions of songs in the show, and the others are interpolations—we’ll take some of this, some of that, and make something new out of it.” Some of the artists who will be performing on the mixtape include Kelly Clarkson, Busta Rhymes, Queen Latifah, Regina Spektor, and Chance the Rapper among others. Something like the mixtape was what Miranda initially had in mind when he first conceived of the idea to put music to the life of first Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, though the musical came before this tape.
Two songs from the mixtape have been released so far. Kelly Clarkson sings “It’s Quiet Uptown,” the heartbreaking song about the Hamiltons after the death of their son, while The Roots do their own take on the fast paced “My Shot.” The album will be released on December second, and fans everywhere will see if the mixtape will be just as revolutionary as the musical and life that inspired it.
