Kaytranada just released the puzzle-piece mixtape that fits in (and completes) his 99.9% debut album. 0.001% is out now, and easily adds to his already stellar reputation.
The mixtape is an hour and a half long, with new funky jams to keep things moving. All kinds of bumping beats, samba samples, and R&B remixes build on his already recognizable style.
The Montreal producer just won the Polaris Prize for 99.9%, making his new release a kind of celebration. Kaytranada’s music makes for intense listening. At first, the electric melodies lull you into relaxation, then he reels in the listener with a killer rhythm, and a manipulated vocal from an old record.
According to The Fader, the mixtape features a remix of Usher‘s “U Don’t Have To Call” as well as Chance The Rapper‘s “All Night” (which he produced).
If Kaytranada didn’t think he was all the way there yet, his new mixtape solidifies it. The mixtape has over 9,000 plays on Soundcloud and counting.
