Kaytranada couldn’t help himself when it came to remixing Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better”, but hold up, before you think this might be a disaster in the making, Kaytranada proves that he’s the genius mastermind that can put a beat to anything and make it FLY! Kaytranada premiered the “updated” track on Beats 1 today, According to complex, the young producer trades the tracks sensually natured lyrics and growling guitar power chords for a frenetic production that quickly kicks the track into high gear, while giving it a very welcomed vibe that will leave you on the dance floor all summer long. This track for sure will be on your playlist to listen to over and over and over again.
Zane Lowe interviewed the 99.9% producer today to get his take on what he was feeling in transforming the track; Kaytranada stated that the music today is constantly mixed with computer sounds and tend to have a robotic feel to them, in remixing Rihanna’s track, Kaytranada wanted to make sure that he brought back the human feel to music just like it was back in the day, which was also his inspiration for remixing the song in the first place. He also stated that he played the song repeatedly on tour last year and had many contemplation’s about remixing the track. Craig David, whom happens to be Kaytranada’s favorite artist, also had influence in his re-make of the song. Speaking of favorite artist, Kaytranada stated that he took some sounds from David’s 2001 album, but mixed in his own chords sort of like how Pharrell and Timbaland do on their tracks, He stated that in the future he would love to collaborate with Jill Scott and Amerie – just to name a few.
“Kiss It Better” was definitely a song made by Rihanna, but just in case you want to hear another side of the song….Kaytranada has pulled back many layers that you can also enjoy just as well as the original..
