It’s been a week since the untimely death of Dwyane Wade‘s cousin, Nykea Aldridge, 32, whom was mistakenly killed when two men walked up and began firing shots at a third man on Chicago’s South side, late in the afternoon of August 26th. Wade’s cousin, coming from registering her kids for school, was pushing her youngest in a stroller when she was fatally shot. Aldridge, who was not the intended target, died on the scene- leaving behind four children.
The Wade family has been going through a tough time since this incident. Dwyane Wade had just spoke out against gun violence during a panel discussion a day earlier, hosted by The Undefeated on ESPN. As if going through a tragedy such as this one is not painful enough, GOP Presidential nominee Donald Trump made the situation even worse by using the incident as a political gain, which caused Dwyane Wade to be ‘conflicted’ over his motives.
Dwyane Wade sat down with Good Morning America correspondent George Stephanopoulos to discuss how grateful he was of how conversations and awareness has been started over the tragic ordeal, but, on the other hand, how Trump’s response left a bad taste in his mouth, as he feels the GOP Presidential nominee was using the event for personal gain.

After this tweet, Trump later offered his condolences to the Wade family.

The two men involved in the death of Wade’s cousin were later identified as Derren Sorrells, 22 and Darwin Sorrells, 26; brothers who were on parole during the time of the shooting. Wade had just returned to his hometown of Chicago last month after signing on to play for the Chicago Bulls. The murder rate in Chicago is at its peak this year with homicides; as of Wednesday alone the city had 463 murders, bringing the total of murders this year to 2,600. Chicago is said to have a higher murder rate than New York and Los Angeles alone.
I doubt that this incident will get Trump more votes at the polls in November, and if incidents like this is going to cause him to continue to make disrespecting comments like he’s already doing, then he’s going up a river without a paddle. You draw more bees with honey than with vinegar Mr. Trump, but then again, he wouldn’t know what honey is as it seems like his toast is being constantly buttered with nothing but smoke!
