Vince Staples‘ music is notably very gritty, highlighting the murkiest faces of Long Beach, California, his hometown, and the toll it takes on him and those around him. He’s been around the game for a while, despite only being 23 years of age, from humble collaborations with Mac Miller in Stolen Youth, to eulogies about innocence in Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2.
All that said, the Californian native has a lot to say about the more popular topics as well. During interviews, he’s known for his deadpan sense of humor, delivered in his deadpan voice; making use of the same tone he uses in his lyrics to describe the more peripheral issues. Vince has previously had a lot to say about GQ‘s choice for models, pet ownership, and Bill Nye in the past.
“Bill Nye is the reason all these kids know how to proportion their lean in the beverage. He taught us these algorithms.”
Recently, Vince Staples was commenting on the Olympics and the competitors involved in it. On “Men’s Gymnastics,” he said that men need to stop doing women’s sports because we aren’t as “creative” and we aren’t as “smart” as women. Let it be known, too, that Forrest Gump is the “table tennis champion.”
