Music has and will always be subjective. Some people prefer genres like Country and Pop while some opt for the more “urban” Hip-Hop or R&B sound. Whatever your preference, Cincinnati, Ohio native Don Kew‘s got you with his new single, “We Got It“, which features underpressure. hotspitter Milky Mel. The track is a 3 minute chilled out journey into the intricate thoughts of 23-year-old artist Kew. “Know they’ll have to take my life to put these lyrics in a box” says Kew on the first verse in his chillingly deep voice, essentially setting the tone for the rest of the Attixa produced track. The song features Kew and Mel trading bars over a soothing sample and Dilla-esque drum breaks. Mel specifically, delivers one hell of a show stopper during the second verse which is carried by clever bars such as, “We all addicts, I’m hooked on good Phonics” and “I been looking for a way out/Mary helped slow down, stretch a day out” and a mumble flow that is interesting but enjoyable.
Though the two exhibit great chemistry on the record, this is the first time they’ve collaborated. “I saw one of his songs — STD (Something 2 Do) — and I really f***ed with it. So I started looking into his music and followed him on Twitter and what not.” said the Ohio native over email, “Either he reached out to me or vice versa, I can’t remember but we just had similar views on creating, so we worked.” Typical “how we met” story in 2016, right? This might be the only current track the duo has in the works, “This is a loose track, though” says Kew. “Getting the track together was pretty easy though. We see eye to eye on a lot of stuff.” With comments like that, we can only hope to hear more collaborations from the two.
