Orange is the New Black star, Laverne Cox will be starring in the remake of the 1975 classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The comical and musical horror is about two lovers, Brad (Ryan McCartan) and Janet (Victoria Justice) who ended up stranded with a flat tire. Cox will be playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter , which is the transvestite homeowner of the creepy mansion Brad and Janet go to for help.
Through out their experience in the house, Frank-N-Furter’s sexually ambiguous and mad scientist ways clearly show it’s not your typical home to come across. During Janet and Brad’s journey in the eerie home, they will meet some of Furter’s helpers, known as Riff Raff (Reeve Carney), and Magenta (Christina Milian). With all the dancing and rock n roll songs, it leads to the annual Transylvanian science convention to reveal Frank’s latest creation “Rocky Horror.” The birth of the creation is an attractive man, made to only fulfill the desires of Frank.
Laverne Cox looks stunning as Entertainment Weekly gave us the exclusive first look of her as Frank-N-Furter, who was originally played by Tim Curry on stage and in the film. “I get tweets from people, ‘Please don’t f— up Rocky Horror Picture Show!'” said Cox, humorously. As she continues with the EW exclusive, she referred to this experience as magical, “When I started training again last year, I started working my chest voice,” she says on the Toronto set. “As a trans woman with a low voice, I had been so afraid of those low tones. This is a character where it’s absolutely appropriate that I sing in the base baritone register that I have. What’s also fun is playing with those higher notes in my register too. This is sort of my professional singing debut. But it’s been wonderful claiming my chest voice. It’s been really healing.”
The Rocky Horror Picture Show will premiere on Fox this fall.
