The chemistry between Boston’s Gary Soulz and Flexxington Don is evident and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Over the last six months, the frequent collaborators have been busy in the studio working with each other. After releasing music under the moniker G.O., Soulz decided to change his name and with the name change came a new sound that is a bit more refreshing than his previous releases, which tip-toed on the boom bap side of hip-hop.
Following up last month’s “Stressin,” Soulz and his go to producer are back with their latest offering “My Luv” featuring a guest appearance from the rising, Ye Ali. Despite contributions from the higher profiled Ali, the spotlight remains on Soulz.
Shortly after the electric synths kick in Soulz rolls out a polished verse about holding his girl down through anything. Separating his verse from Ali’s boastful contribution is a repetitive hook yet its simplicity helps gets the message across — he’ll be there for his girl no matter. Ashante Nicole also returns again and laces the track with smooth background vocals, finishing off where she started on “Stressin.”
Listen to “My Luv” and stay tuned for his upcoming Soul Soundz EP, which is expected to arrive this spring.
