Okay, so who doesn’t like a feel good story? Especially one that involves someone that has overcame the bad lemons that life has dealt to them and turned it around and made sweet lemonade. That is what 2nd grader, Anaya Ellick did when she won the 2016 Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellence in Manuscript Penmanship and she did it all with no hands. Anaya’s handwriting was so good she beat out 50 other students in the category for students with cognitive delays or physical or developmental disabilities for the Nicholas Maxim Special Award For Excellence in Manuscript Penmanship, according to ABC.
Anaya attends Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake, Virginia – Principal, Tracy Cox stated that Anaya is quite an exceptional student; whom she calls a vivacious and “no-excuses” type of lady.
“She truly has some of the neatest handwriting in her class,” says Tracy Cox.
Bianca Middleton, Anaya’s mom couldn’t be more prouder of her daughter.
“She ties her shoes, she gets dressed by herself, she doesn’t really need any assistance to do anything.”
Even a group of occupational therapists were taken aback by Anaya’s writing abilities. Kathleen Wright, the competition director stated that she was stunned after viewing Anaya’s writing, in which did not look like the writing of a little girl whom has no hands.
Ron H. White, Greenbrier Christian Academy founder and superintendent stated that Anaya’s peers treat her the same as other students and Anaya keeps up with them.
Life is not solid, life is fluid. Therefore it changes and if it changes, so can whatever you’re dealing with. Anaya is truly an inspiration not only in her classroom but in life in general, she teaches us that no matter what obstacle life hands out, you have the power and the ability to change it for the better, just as she is doing all on her own.
