Making it directorial debut at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, Nate Parker, plays Nat Turner a literate slave and preacher. Turner’s financial strained slave master agrees to use Turner’s preaching to quell unruly slaves. Seeing the destruction that occurs, Turner then devises a plan to lead his slaves and people to freedom during the thick of the antebellum south. Starring alongside Parker is Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Jackie Earle Haley, Gabrielle Union, and Mark Boone Jr. The film has no official trailer or release date.
Watering down nothing, from the systematic and brutal torture caused by slave owners on the men and women they enslaved to the 48-hour bloody uprising led by Turner depicted in the movie, the film challenges our conceptions of that terrible time in American history and the lives it destroyed. Stay tuned for this great movie- I smell an Oscar buzz. Please leave comments below
