The Digital Age has taken a toll on the print industry as another infamous magazine has been forced to close up shop. Townsquare Media has bought the legendary XXL magazine, and with the internet/blogs being the means to how consumers stay current with news, the company has shut down print publication. Ben Harris, president of Harris Publications, which jump started the magazine, said, “we incubated something digitally, but the Townsquare people can take it to the next level with their digital expertise.” This news comes a week after Vibe magazine, which was bought out by SPIN Media last year, officially ended all their print issues. According to the NY Post, the October/November issues of XXL will be the publication’s final edition to hit newsstands. However, chief content director of Townsquare, Bill Wilson, stated that there is a possibility that XXL will return for special editions. “We think XXL has strong potential in both the digital and live events market,” he said. XXL has been around for 17 years, providing the hip-hop community with great coverage on hip-hop and classic front covers. This is surely not the end of XXL, but a new beginning.
