Laurenovich just dropped a real pleasure on us. Over a pirouetting piano reminiscent of Jedi Mind Tricks, the Queens MC gives vivid image after image and moment after moment of street life in the least ordinary of ways. “We use frozen strawberries as ice cubes,”–it’s not hard to see that, to taste it. “Never trust a connect without sandles,”– instantly, we’ve entered a world, a mindframe, a of constant skepticism, and hilarious qualifiers for reliability. The crown jewel of the song, though? “Live by the sword get sliced by the stiletto / There’s a couple decent buildings, but this whole world is a ghetto.” Suddenly, the picture is much larger, the attitude is more prophetic, the song is universal.
