The relationship between an artist and a producer is usually more collaborative than competitive, but Evidence and Alchemist don’t have your typical relationship. After over a decade of collaborating, they’ve cultivated a relationship that’s fairly brotherly. Accordingly, for the “Step Masters” video they channel John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell‘s film Step Brothers, one-upping each other in increasingly strange contests, but remaining bonded nonetheless. Neither one ever quite comes out on top in the end, but the point is that because of their preexisting rapport, they can challenge each other to continue stepping further.
This is reflected in the music. Though they’ve been making music together for years, they still have things to say. Their joint album, Lord Steppington, arrives on January 1st 2014. Watch the masters at work below.
Can anyone think of the last time Alchemist rapped? It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
