It’s an understatement to say Lyfe Harris is a talented artist. As DATA-X states “he is one of the pioneers of that 2014/2015 Future R&B Wave”. Lyfe dominated the Future R&B lane along with artists like Roy Woods, TYuS and Bryson Tiller at the time. Fast forward to 2020 and he brings his seasoned and ultra well-rounded mastery of the genre with him as he sets the tone for what his fans can expect from him this year. He is gearing up to release his EP at the end of April with another video dropping soon but until then his latest music should keep the viewers on their toes.

Lyfe Harris starts the years off right with torrid, ultra slap-worthy new music. Following up on his first release of 2020 “Don’t Panic” with a new song titled “Decisions”. The BatmanOnTheBeatz and Sledgren-produced track receives a video treatment to compliment the hard-hitting song. Shot by Stop Sign Production and directed by Woozie World. The video brings Lyfe Harris’ obvious decisions to life. The clip is set in the night time with plenty of lights to illuminate the motel in the back drop as Lyfe confidently performs the song. He’s very upfront about his sound in conversation with RESPECT:

“My sound is airy, R&B with dark undertones and textures. I like anything with a melody I can convey and be more creative that way.”

Lyfe Harris’ reverence in contemporary conversations of trap soul authenticates through “Decisions” which boasts a lux lifestyle with lines like “you look way too good to be dining in, i got you out in the latest Mercedes Benz” – the song in its obvious frame is for sophisticated women who enjoy a certain design attention to their daily persona. 2020 should be a lot of fun if it’s gonna sound like this.

Watch the video below.

Culture is what dreams are made of and on that note, it is 2018 and Canadian DJs to look for this year is growing. Latest DJ from the dot to shed light on Toronto’s music scene is DoloindaCUT, Roy Woods‘ official DJ. His musical demeanor is very much in pocket with “pretty girls like trap music” aesthetic. His flawless sets are as fun to listen to as they are during his live performances. It is the combination of the two that makes him a great and entertaining DJ. Coming from a family of DJs, it only comes natural to him but that is far from what he once wanted to be.

Have you always wanted to be a DJ?

No I haven’t. I had the dream of every young man, I wanted to be in the NBA. Other than that, I’ve always had an interest for art and drawing. I wanted to be a architect and design buildings but I was always surrounded by music. My dad had been DJing before I was born so I was brought up around DJs ,my older brother also DJ’d so growing up I used to play around. Spinning records at my moms house parties, but it was just for fun I never planned on becoming one.

Growing up what was it like for you and where do you get your music taste from?

Growning up was fun for me I’ve always been a known person. Low key I was a bad yute, always giving trouble. I was a product of my environment. I was raised on Lakeshore, that’s the southwest end of Toronto. Then I moved to Brampton. I went to school with 4YALL Entertainment (Toronto-based Comedy Youtube Channel) then I came right back to Toronto and never left since, I feel like I get my music taste from my older brother. Growing up he used to record hip hop videos on VHS and I used to just sit there and watch different VHS mixtapes all day.

Back in the days DJs used to break records. Do you think the same level of dedication still exists among today’s DJs?

Yes and no. Back in the day artists would find a DJ and get their record played in the club, hoping clubs would fuck with it, that’s how they put it out. But now artists are on soundcloud, and DJs like me that like discovering new music go and to find their tracks. When I DJ or do a mix I always like to add new content that I fuck with and try to put people on game.

Name some of your favorite brands.

Off-White, Virgil is always creating masterpieces, Supreme, Stone Island, Gucci, Jordan, Nike, Palm Angles and Ksubi.

5 goals in 2018:

My 5 goals in 2018 would be to be on the headline of my first festival and turn that shit the fuck up, my second goal is to cross the border and DJ in America and all around the world like France and Dubai and shit like that. My third is for me to do my own tour around North America. Fourth would be to produce a single on someones album or EP and my last goal is to DJ a venue with Virgil Abloh and rock the stage with him.

Your top 7 favorite artists?

MJ, Tupac, the Lox, Jay Z, Biggie, Kanye West, and my brother Roy Woods.

What was the last song you played on your phone?

The last song I listened to on my phone was a un-released record by my brother Roy Woods called Snow White that he just recorded at the house. I have that shit on repeat. that shit is a BANGER.

You have been on tour with OVO artist Roy Woods, what was it like?

Being on tour with Roy was amazing. So fucking lit. I was able to tour around Canada and go places that I never thought I would go, and actually have fun. Everywhere I went I want to go back to DJ or even just to chill out. I got to meet a lot of great people and got the chance to DJ in front of 1400-2000 people for my first tour and have the whole place lit, that tour was very special to me.

Was this your first time touring?

Yes it was. And this is a tour that I’m never going to forget. I was able to learn so much when I was on that tour being on road with my brothers. I learned how to control the crowds and turn them up. Eating right and sleeping right plays a big role because I wasn’t doing neither and it fucked me up by the end of that tour I was sick like a dawg, But I’m ready for the next one baby.

What made you make this mix?

I just wanted to curate a playlist of Toronto music that I can put on a platform and show to the world all the talent we have up here. Some of these songs are un-released and some are out on SoundCloud and Spotify etc. This is just the first of many things coming so keep on the look out. I hope u guys fuck with my movement.

Dolo also recently DJ’d for Stone Island’s first ever North American event. In 2018 definitely look out for him to make some noise.

Going through DRIPXXX‘s SoundCloud, there is no doubt that you’re going to come across a few bangers — as well as learn about the rapper’s intriguing aesthetic. The music is well above the bar with so much sauce dripping, unable to be boxed into one genre. The lyrics are your average mosh-pit friendly rhymes, but the song sure doesn’t lack in adlibs. It’s not just the music, either: DRIPXXX’s demeanor is about mixing drinks with substances (and the drink of choice would probably be pink lemonade).

As downtown Toronto culture shifts, DRIPXXX is the latest addition to the flock of new talent rising from concrete. Listen to the TRIPSIXX-assisted banger below. Produced by Ivan The Terrible, the song was also premiered during the UTU takeover OVO Sound Radio episode 57.

OVO artist Roy Woods has been pushing his upcoming debut album Say Less. Just over a week ago, he dropped a ‘Say Less Freestyle’ which premiered on OVO Sound radio episode 47. The freestyle was cleverly paying homage to fellow artists under Drake‘s label as well as other members of the OVO crew.

The “Instinct” star teamed up with one of our favorite photographers, The.97 (Dragan Andic) and stylist illy to highlight a lookbook of his UTU merch. Shot at Diptych Studio in downtown Toronto, the shoot is a showcase of Roy Woods’ personal brand that the young artist has been developing in the background. Today, he debuts his limited edition UTU tees to kick off the Summer. As he stays busy running his album campaign, check out the merch below and head over to UTU.Store for a purchase.

Starting off 2017 with a brand new campaign, OVO’s young boy Roy Wood$ recently announced his upcoming album Say Less via his social media. Along with new music hopefully, we can expect one or two awesome collab songs as well. There aren’t any details available about the album at this point but the excitement surrounding this announcement has left fans in a very good mood.

Roy Wood$ has been stealing a lot of attention with his come up during 2016. His songs like “Dangerous” and “Love You” have been on a healthy rotation on a lot of people’s playlists. From Kylie Jenner (who snap chatted bumping “Love You”) to some of the biggest tastemakers in the game, his music has been touching fans everywhere. His music resume for 2016 consists of him dropping two curated projects, Waking At Dawn and Nocturnal, touring with Drizzy and Future as well as headlining his own “Unlocked Tour.” His music collaborations include Drake, Majid Jordan, TyDolla$ign, MADEINTYO and 24hrs.

Musically speaking his sound is special because it is not just culturally relevant or trending music, it is personal and vulnerable as Roy sings openly about his love issues and his life overall, making fans all around the world relate to his lyrics on a very personal level. Look out for him this year.

Toronto artist, $ha dropped “Hustle” from his name a while back, evolving himself into an even thorough musician. His music is well known for a selection of woozy, dark trap beats with melodic vocal hooks, menacing flows and TO Caribbean slang, an increasingly prominent sound coming out of the city of Toronto.

Fresh off premiering “Don’t Worry” on Much Music, $ha delivers a brand new single titled “AC Centrum” which is produced, written and performed by him. His love for experimenting with his music and aesthetic has never been this honest. This track is a melodic take on girl problems (and resolutions) that sees the 333 head honcho wax poetic in a expertly-executed double time verse.

$ha is an original member of UTU (alongside Roy Woods) and Reps Up, whose resume goes as deep as his history in the Greater Toronto Area. Being from G-Way (which Drake famously rapped about on the “We Made It” Freestyle) to being Chubbs’ cousin, $ha has become a local celebrity who is getting serious industry looks. His previous performances include opening for Young Lean and the king of grime Skepta in Toronto. He is one of the rare Torontonian artists who has taken a notable stab at grime (because of his records like “Tings Dem”) as well as the Canadian hip-hop scene.

OVO’s Roy Woods just premiered a brand new remix to Kodak Black’s viral track “SKRT” on OVO Sound Radio episode 14. The remix sounds intact with the original instrumental as he packs the tune with his feelings filled vocals singing about his exis of course. It has been a while since we heard from the young 6 star, ever since his crazy cinematic video for “Get You Good” dropped. Take a listen to the remix below.
