Styles P – Dime Bag

Legendary emcee and member of The LOX Styles P is putting in more work than some of your favorite new artists this year. Following G-Host and Beloved (the latter alongside Dave East), Styles returns with a new drop titled Dime Bag, named so for it’s 10-song tracklist. There aren’t any additional appearances this time around, either: just one of Hip-Hop’s hardest going in lyrically over hard production.

Kodie Shane – Young Heartthrob

Ever since seeing her alongside Lil Yachty as a member of the Sailing Team (which is apparently disbanded), it was hard not to see Kodie Shane as a soon-to-be breakout artist. Following tours and highly-rated releases like Zero Gravity, the Atlanta artist delivers her debut album Young Heartthrob, which sees 15 genre-bending tracks and assists from TK Kravitz and Trippie Redd. This is only the beginning.

Too $hort – The Pimp Tape

At ago fifty-freaking-two, Too $hort is definitely pushing the boundaries of your typical Hip-Hop career, showing that our legends can continue to deliver dope tunes in the same way as many of our Rock & Roll counterparts. This week, he keeps that going via his twentieth album The Pimp Tape, which contains 18 tracks and plenty of dope features (T.I., ScHoolboy Q, E-40, 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, French Montana, Ty Dolla $ign, Mozzy, Nef The Pharaoh, Mistah F.A.B. and more). Also added below: a visual for the G-Eazy and The-Dream-assisted “Only Dimes.”

Smino – NØIR

Following last year’s well-received debut blkswn (which I’m still listening to heavy), St. Louis’ own Smino delivers a new release titled NØIR, which sees a healthy 18 songs and additional appearances from Valee, Dreezy, Ravyn Lenae and more.

9th Wonder Presents: Jamla Is the Squad II

Four years after its inaugural predecessor, 9th Wonder is back with the second installment of his Jamla Is The Squad series, which sees his artists (Ruben Vincent, Ian Kelly, Heather Victoria, GQ and Rapsody, to name a few) trading bars and beats alongside J. Cole, Black Thought, Busta Rhymes, Conway and more.

Tee Grizzley – Still My Moment

Still sailing off the release of Activated, Tee Grizzley closes out the year with his second drop Still My Moment, a presumed sequel to last year’s breakout record My Moment. Still My Moment sees 15 tracks and additional appearances from Chance The Rapper, Quavo, Offset, Lil Pump and more.

IDK – IDK & FRIENDS

For his latest, IDK surprises with a 7-track effort that sees him collaborating alongside other DMV artists (ex. Wale, Rico Nasty, Q Da Fool) and fellow peers like Maxo Kream and Domo Genesis. He explains the release below:

“These are raw and uncut idk thoughts… I’ve done a lot of features with my friends and I feel like it would be a shame to let that music go to waste. This is in no way shape or form as deep as many of my previous projects as a whole, BUT I think each song is fire and gets the point across in a short amount of time. I don’t want anyone to have any expectations for this project. I don’t want it to be mistaken for my debut album… I took the time to work on my hooks and keep a level of simplicity in each track, but at the same time still keep it clever as usual. I just want y’all to enjoy the crank and play the f*ck out of it while we wait for me to complete the album.”

Trippie Redd – A Love Letter To You 3

T.I. – Dime Trap

The Kang returns. T.I. delivers his 10th studio album Dime Trap, which sees 15 tracks and appearances from many of Tip’s closest collaborators — Meek Mill, Teyana Taylor, Young Thug, Jeezy, Anderson .Paak and more included. Also added is Tip’s latest visual for the Yo Gotti-assisted “Wraith.”

Sheck Wes – Mudboy

Following “Chippi Chippi” and the smash hit “Mo Bamba,” New York rising star Sheck Wes has liberated his debut album Mudboy. The project — which has no other features — sees 14 hard-hitting tracks ready to shut down any rave or stage. Stream in its entirety below.

Ghostface Killah – The Lost Tapes

Here’s an interesting combo: the legendary Ghostface Killah…and Big Ghost? Isn’t that this guy?

Anyway, the two have joined forces to create The Lost Tapes, which sees Ghostface alongside many of his equally legendary peers (Snoop Dogg, Ras Kass, E-40, Raekwon, KXNG Crooked and more) over 13 tracks. Very dope to see all of these Hip-Hop icons still getting busy in 2018.

Dom Kennedy – Volume Two

Dom Kennedy continues to quietly make some of the best music on the West Coast — his latest being the new album Volume Two, which saw 16 tracks and additional appearances from Warm Brew‘s Ray Wright, Mykestro, Krondon, Jay 305 and Glasses Malone. Stream below.

AlunaGeorge – Champagne Eyes

Following 2016’s I Remember, London duo Aluna Francis and George Reid — collectively known as AlunaGeorge — are back with a new EP titled Champagne Eyes. Speaking to i-D, Aluna spoke on why they decided to create an EP for their latest run:

“We’re not necessarily sure that albums are the medium we want to work in. I think me and George may have a difference of opinion in that. For me, an album still feels like a really excellent way to work, more the methodology of an album. Then we got free — we got free of our label and everybody — and we were just like, “Let’s do our first independent band release. Let’s do an EP, where we can concentrate on loving these few songs instead of concentrating on ‘we’ve gone independent and we’re releasing an album entirely ourselves.”

Champagne Eyes comes in at 6 tracks with additional appearances from Baauer, Cautious Clay and Bryson Tiller. Check it out below.

Mozzy – Gangland Landlord

Mozzy continues to stay consistent with his releases. Following last year’s 1 Up Top Ahk and March’s Spiritual Conversations, the Sacramento artist returns with a new album titled Gangland Landlord, which sees 18 tracks and additional appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, YG, Blac Youngsta, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, YFN Lucci, ScHoolboy Q, Too $hort and many more.

Dave East & Styles P – Beloved

Dave East and Styles P, two of New York’s generational leaders in Hip-Hop, have joined forces to create the new project Beloved, which is best described below:

“‘Beloved’ translates to David, which brings us to our two artists, David Brewster (Dave East) and David Styles (Styles P). ‘Beloved’ in English means dearly loved, highly regarded and admired, which reflects the sentiments of the two Davids in New York City. In this body of work we hear how the two David’s battle through the goliaths of violence, street politics, drugs and money.”

Today, AWAR delivers the lead single from his upcoming album, “Spoils of War.” The track is titled, “Bricks Like ’86” produced by Vanderslice and featuring  2/3 of The Lox’s Styles P. and Jadakiss. The single is now available for streaming on all platforms, and is also available on a coke white 7″ featuring a non-album cut titled, “The 87 Getback” on the B-Side, that is also produced by Vanderslice. It should be obvious from the titles, these companion tracks are a throwback to the Coke era, when the rise of crack first made millionaires out of street hustlers.

AWAR’s album, “Spoils of War” is scheduled to arrive October 26, 2018. Stream below.

Desiigner – L.O.D.

I think we’ve been waiting for Desiigner‘s L.O.D. (Life OF Desiigner) to make landfall for a while now. What was expected to be an official debut album is now a (surprise) 7-track EP that sees the legendary Mike Dean as executive producer. Nonetheless, the turn-up continues for the Brooklyn emcee…check that out below, along with visuals for “Priice Tag” and “Tonka.”

Preme – Light Of Day

Another L.O.D. project sees the light of day (see what I did there?). My own corniness aside, Canadian star Preme delivers his new album titled Light Of Day, which comes with 15 tracks and appearances from Lil Wayne, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Offset, Post Malone, Murda Beatz, DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign and YG. Somewhat surprisingly, OVO boss and close friend Drake doesn’t show up on the tracklisting.

Blocboy JB – Simi

Much in part thanks to Drake, Memphis star Blocboy JB has been sailing in the commercial realm thanks to tracks like “Look Alive,” A$AP Rocky‘s “Bad Company,” “Rover 2.0” (with 21 Savage) and more. Now, he delivers his new project Simi, named after a fallen friend that passed away on Mother’s Day.

In addition to the aforementioned, the 18-track project also sees appearances from YG, Lil Pump and Moneybagg Yo…in addition to the album below, you can also check out a new visual for “No Chorus Pt. 11.”

Styles P – G-Host

Following the slept-on Nickel Bag EP, legendary LOX member Styles P delivers a brand new album titled G-Host, his first since 2015’s A Wise Guy and A Wise Guy. Additional appearances include Oswin Benjamin, Nino Man, Scram Jones and more.

Rae Sremmurd – SR3MM

This is probably the biggest release for the weekend. Not only did Rae Sremmurd deliver a dope new project as a group, they also delivered as solo projects: Swae Lee brought the Swaecation while Jxmmi gave us Jxmtro.

Royce Da 5’9″ – Book Of Ryan

Royce Da 5’9″ delivers the Book of Ryan.

If you’re a Royce Da 5’9″ fan, you really don’t have anything to complain about. Not only did he just recently drop off the second installment of PRhyme alongside DJ Premier, he’s also blessed the masses with a new album of his own titled Book Of Ryan. In addition to the bars (and this being his most personal project to date), additional appearances include Eminem, Boogie, J. Laid back but never left out of the conversation; Styles P still holds his own as one of the most prolific master of ceremonies of the culture. With the release of his Nickel Bag EP, Styles — who is known for being able to hold his own– applies pressure without giving any warning.

Having a natural rapport with the D-Block member, the EP includes features from Whispers, Flowboy Vegas and Dyce Payne. Keeping above the clouds and always keeping a mellow aura, Styles lays down serious heat, keeping music listeners aware that even though The Lox as a whole aren’t dropping music, he still is. Known for going from zero to a hundred in a blink of an eye, most competitors know what they’re getting themselves into by choosing to cross Styles.

Styles values the essence of rap, which most would come to an agreement and say that lyricism is just the tip of the iceberg. Having studied and critiqued his craft for so long that it’s almost impossible to think that he won’t snap on any record. Parental advisory is suggested when listening to Styles. For those whose pen game doesn’t equate, it would be suggested to tread lightly when bringing up Style’s name.
