On the surface, it could seem like soul music in the mainstream is at a standstill. Granted, practically EVERYTHING out right now has some sort of soulful aspects and inspirations behind it—yet there’s still a gaping void in the industry, that up and comers like Xavier Omar, Brent Faiyaz, Ravyn Lenae and even Smino are desperately on a quest to fill in. Another innovative artist who without a doubt has the creativity to soon be placed among them is Las Vegas singer/songwriter, Sabriel, who makes her RESPECT. Magazine debut with the majestic new visuals for her single, “Hummingbird.”

Hailing from her 2016 project, sha bre el, “Hummingbird” is Sabriel utilizing her dense vocal arsenal to perfection. While the rest of the EP is filled with in depth love-ballads and beautiful songwriting, Sabriel opts instead for simplicity on this track, creating the perfect pop record with just enough soul seeped inside it to seamlessly compliment her more slower music. Similarly, the visuals play right into the hands of the song, with a handful of women, including Sabriel, who are dressed in clothing presumably from the 1800’s while performing rhythmic gymnastics that synchronized with the infectious tambourines, flawlessly. Adding to her stout vocal range and off-the-wall sense of creativity, Sabriel has already had her music featured on both Fox’s girl-group driven show Star and BET’s new hit, Rebel—creating a lane for the Vegas native to showcase her music on all fronts.
