Collaboration tapes are the new trend in Hip-Hop, & for the most part, I’m here for it. Despite what the critics say, World On Drugs was a solid outing & nobody can deny the impact that impending Freddie Gibbs x Curren$y project is gonna have. Contributing to the wave, Bay Area rep Ronnie Mac teams up with Bfmeez for their fire new project, The Turquoise Tape.

At only 7-tracks, The Turquoise Tape follows Mac & Bfmeez as they go stupid over the bouncy production. Mac, in particular, is on fire, following his acclaimed mixtape that was just released last month. Despite the project being so short, the effect is felt. Though this may be more of a passion project, you wouldn’t be able to tell at first listen.

Check out, The Turquoise Tape below and be sure to get familiar with Ronnie Mac & Bfmeez.

The way music is consumed these days is wild to say the least. With artists like Future dropping two QUALITY albums in the same amount of weeks, as well as the constant release of singles popping up on Soundcloud daily, Hip-Hop fans have become spoiled. Gone are the days where an album that, at first listen, was a straight dud but slowly but surely became your favorite. No. Nowadays, unless you’re an established force in the Rap rankings, constant output is crucial to getting on the radars of the ever diminishing attention spans of 21st Century Rap fans. That’s why it’s refreshing to see Las Vegas native, Ronnie Mac, still riding the waves of his 2016 project, ‘Weekend With Mac’ with the visual for, “Pluto & Jupiter”

Sticking with the stoner theme that has made Mac a college town favorite, – the budding emcee is also on the cusp of earning his Bachelor’s from the University of Nevada-Reno (GO REBELS!!!!!!!!) – the Reno rep takes you on a trip through “The Biggest Little City in the World”, keeping it authentic with shots of the towns piercing snow production mixed in with clips of them hotboxing a dorm room. “I got em’ flocking like the first hoe, I can put you on some sh*t that don’t look like it’s from Earth though,” rhymes Mac, keeping with the space theme that’s prevalent throughout the video.

Mac has built quite the buzz with the longstanding project, releasing the noteworthy visual for “Fan” as well as opening up for artists like Joey Fatts, Rich The Kid and more. “I’m focused on finishing school right now, so I can’t put my foot on the neck musically,” the UNR undergrad says in an email to RESPECT., “I plan to shoot one more video off of my tape though. Everything kicks off May 19th when I graduate and have my show with Mozzy.”

Check out the brand new visual for, “Pluto & Jupiter“ below and be sure to keep an eye on Ronnie Mac.

Underrated is a term that’s thrown around more loosely than the phrase, “GOAT”. Everybody and their moms thinks that they’re underrated and that their music is being “slept on”. In reality, a lot of you are actually overrated by your own minds and it’s that exact thinking that has crippled the underground Hip-Hop scene since the internet took over. But what about those artists that actually ARE underrated? What about the ones who are being lost in the shuffle of one “OOOUUU” freestyle after another? Enter in Oakland native Ronnie Mac who delivered a fantastic but overlooked project in, WeekendWithMac2, a sequel to his first by the same name.

Featuring production from S Vybe, HimCarter, Blair Norf and more, Mac attacks each beat with a precise but focused aggression that draws your ears right in. The self proclaimed Cuba Wooding Jr. — brilliant pun — showcases his stout lyrical ability on almost every track and let’s loose over banging bass kicks and wavy synths. The projects sees Ronnie transitioning from turn up to introspective depending on which song you listen too, and sometimes he does both on one track. On the amped up, “Working“, Mac rhymes, “Got a 9-5 and a 5-9/ fu*k clocking out I’m getting overtime” over a distorted xylophone while on the Blair Norf produced “Fan” he gives us a look into his personal life with the bar, “They don’t wanna talk about how all my sh*t slaps/ how I’m getting this degree while I’m moving off them packs, facts.” Other standout tracks from the project are, “Know Dat“, “$auce Vegas” and the brilliant Dillon Jamal featured, “OMW” which is a jam for the ladies and the song most suited for a music video throughout the project.

Check out, WeekendWithMac2, below and be sure to keep an eye on the Oakland native who’s beginning to pick up some steam in the industry.
