The New York City culture and lifestyle is alive! Payday Records signee Radamiz, out of Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, continues to make moves and push forward: in addition to his latest single “NYNYNYNY,” the talented artist stepped outside of music to be featured in a new campaign with entrepreneurial company/app Depop — all while showcasing live events all over the city. 2018 seems to be going great for the hardworking Brooklyn native, who uses his raw talent to bring people together with true-to-life stories and an authentic and believable style that listeners easily relate to. Radamiz demonstrates a strong sense of artistic integrity, followed by a strong grasp on artistic value overall –that trait alone made us open our ears and take notice to his movement. Most of all, Radamiz is a new-age artist with the understanding that it takes more than just being an talented artist to make your presence felt, and throughout the years, his music has progressed and gotten better all around.

Recently, we checked up with Radamiz to discuss his new music and how’s life treating him since signing with the legendary label Payday Records, and a list of other things. Check it out below.

RESPECT.: What’s up? How are you and how’s the day been treating you so far?

Radamiz: I’ve been good today man. Running around handling business, met with my lawyer today, just going over the hustle. Focused on how to get this “NYNYNYNY” record prepped for the video release. Now I’m just smoking some hookah before a session and finally got to do this interview. Thank you for wanting to speak bro.

2018 seems to be going well for you, as you’re gaining more and more traction alongside the rejuvenated Payday Records label. As of today, how is it for you working with a label after being indie and self-efficient for so many years?

It’s good man, I think anyone signed, indie or major will tell you there’s still so much work on your plate but it feels good to break that workload up and have a team around you working to get things moving. There are going to be bumps in the road no matter what, we just try to focus on the quality of the music and reaching the people. I’m glad we’re getting more listeners on our side, the times are aligning in our favor.

I know performances are nothing new for you and you’ve been on the same stage as hip-hop greats, but recently in Brooklyn you had a small live set at Kinfolk94 and you shot cameos for “NYNYNYNY.” How did the cameos idea come together? Can you let us know about that night?

Yeah, I’m so excited about this “NYNYNYNY” release. Got a long time friend/collaborator Thana Brick doing the whole thing. We came up with a treatment that basically highlights the anxiety New York can give you with just how packed, bustling and fast-paced it always is. The song itself is like a scream in the middle of a crowded street and I hope the video shows that beautifully too and brings the record to life.

I’m guessing we should definitely look for an album from you this year? Who are some of the producers that you’re working with or hope to work with on your debut label release?

I’m not sold on dates for the album release but as soon as it’s ready you’ll know. Got a lot of in-house producers on this: H. Illa, Dre Dollasz, Double A, Blank Noriega, RÜDE, etc. You know V’Don is on it, but I don’t want to ruin the surprises. I want to link with some classic producers like DJ Premier [and] Pete Rock but right now I need me and my circles individuality to shine through first.

In 2018 what would is the most important element in your music that you want your listeners to know each and every time your music is played?

That it’s about the human experience. As a songwriter, I focus on how to really bring those real-life emotions, situations, feelings, and environments and make sounds out of them. I look at my music in a physical way, I view it as walking art. Art means nothing without emotion though, and I hope that authenticity shines through in your headphones in a real ill way.

I saw something you said on your Twitter: “radamiz fans are not racist and that’s dope.” What influenced this statement (which is awesome by the way)?

[Laughs] Thank you. My music is just so self-uplifting and uplifting of others that I think by default if you fuck with me you have to have an open mind and heart about things. I look for ways to relate to someone’s story and not disassociate. Music is a bridge, and my shit is too bring those polarizing worlds together. All of my fans are the dopest motherfuckers alive: and these are facts.

Robbie: What else can we look forward to seeing from you in 2018?

The evolution of me. Breaking down barriers, breaking out of preconceived notions, and some beautiful art intertwining through it all. “NYNYNYNY” video is going to go viral and we’ve got some more singles to drop before it’s album time. I’m grateful for what’s in store.

After dropping his highly anticipated album Writeous a few months back, rapper Radamiz collaborates with Chicago’s 119 Productions for his newest single “Won’t I.” Seems like its only up from here for the artist that is working with OnGaud – the hottest production collective in the windy city that’s also known for working with big names like Mick Jenkins, Chance The Rapper, and Vic Mensa. The Brooklyn rapper flaunts his skilled flows in his newest single and shows out with hard and rapid lyrics over the mesmerizing beat. Radamiz spits lyrics on the major downs of his life as well as his biggest hopes and dreams. He proves to his listeners and even the haters that he is motivated and is not phased by those that believes he doesn’t have what it takes.

The hard-hitting track will be featured on 119 Production’s newest project Countdown 2 Midnight, a collaborative mixtape between the Brooklyn and Chicago scenes in Hip-Hop. The mixtape will feature artists like Mick Jenkins, Kaytranada, Saba and many others. You can listen to the flaming track below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Brooklyn emcee Radamiz, prepare to be aware of his talent by the time you finish reading this. Recently, Radamiz was invited to Statik Selektah‘s ShowOff Radio show on Sirius XM’s Shade 45 station.

In usual ShowOff Radio tradition, artists come heavy and “show off” with their best bars on Statik’s show.

Once Statik threw on some classic beats, Radamiz got straight to work. The hunger and passion for rapping is clearly evident in every word he spits into the mic. Here’s proof of why Radamiz is a force to be reckoned with the in hip-hop world.

John Thompson white towel draped over his shoulder, he seemed startled yet pleased to see friendly faces. “Pre-show portraits?” Radamiz willfully sacrificed his final moments of solace to pose for some classic images as his predecessor, Bobby G entered the last song of his set.

Whether or not Radamiz is a conscious Hip-Hop artist is not up for our judgment. What we can certainly say is that Radamiz is cerebral. His answers are cryptic and indirect at times, but always thoughtful and intelligent. Radamiz is not the type of modern artist who offers the minutiae of his daily travels for mass consumption on social media. Rather, he shares his inner-workings via the music.

“$100,000” is a hustler’s anthem that Radamiz released in 2013. Something inspirational for the underdogs: “For lent, I gave up lint.” Envisioning riches on wax is not a groundbreaking concept, but $100,000 delivers a musicality that sets Radamiz apart from the pack and it was this song that alerted me: Radamiz is on his way to stardom.

Hailing from Bed-Stuy’s Sumner Houses, Radamiz is no stranger to poverty. His worldview is also shaped by his native Dominican Republic, years of study at New York University (Class of 2015), and years of membership in the Mogul Club. The Club is comprised of multimedia artists – MCs, producers, cinematographers – and unified by a noticeable covering of brotherhood.

It is not possible to explore the artistry and possibility of Radamiz without a concurrent exploration of the Mogul Club. Radamiz succeeds as a solo artist, but not as an independent actor. When the release date for Writeous was finally announced, members of the Mogul Club began shouting “April 18!” from their social media rooftops too. There is a prevailing myth in New York City Hip Hop that artists do not support each other, and the Mogul Club constantly defies that. Everyone is lauding and promoting the greatness of Writeous with the vigor that artists typically reserve for their own projects, but therein lies the beauty.

Radamiz has delivered a project that has been four years in the making, not to mention its lifetime of development in New York City public housing. The most recent single from Writeous is “Sumner,” an ode to the Sumner Houses where Radamiz honed his art form. The record finds Radamiz in a comfortable yet triumphant pocket as he reflects on the rats, roaches, and junkies in the Ps while championing the faith and perseverance that have delivered him through.

Faith shines through heavily on Writeous — “Stacking every penny, still got Jesus by the dresser” — and on the introductory track, Radamiz wholly ascends. “God Talks to Me A Lot” sets the tone for the album and announces Radamiz as king. The second verse, though. Radamiz is joined briefly by a Lauryn Hill soundbite and a thorough closing verse from Mogul Club veteran Madwiz. The two have been collaborating musically since their high school days, as evidenced by the hidden YouTube gems that only the real fans know about.

Wordlessness is a rather prominent current Hip Hop trend, but Radamiz seems intent taking the culture, or at least his own music in a new direction. He packs myriad messages and metaphors into each bar, demonstrating the relentlessness that has been able to keep him persevering through the struggles. The rapid flow that he employs on several songs — including the thumping “poweR” that features Mogul Club member History — conjures positive memories of Kendrick Lamar on “Cartoon and Cereal.”

To be brutally honest, one may find difficulty getting straight through Writeous because this album truly demands replays to soak in all of the content. However, when an artist is operating at this level —

Labels still can’t figure out how to market a gut feeling

— we owe it to ourselves and their craft to make the time. There is a reason why we listen to, know Radamiz: he is chosen.

While you are focusing on the Drakes, Futures and Kendricks of hip-hop, you are distracting yourself from the hidden gem that is called Radamiz. Radamiz, real name Radhames Rodriguez, was born and raised out in Brooklyn and most definitely reps the borough like no other. The MC brings more to the table than most lyricists can offer but remains humble and true to himself and his music. And if his recent release, “Sumner,” wasn’t a testament to that then you’ll have to dive into his debut project, Writeous.

The 11-track project includes features from History, Madwiz, King Critical, Adrian Daniel, Kidaf, Oswin Benjamin, Latasha Alcindor and I.O.D. Production comes from The Goonie Tunes, Dre Dollasz, H. Illa, Electrical Requiem, Rudy Mills, B L A N K, Rudy Carino and Double A. With such diversity on the production and features, it’s hard not to find something that you would like on this project. And without a doubt, Radamiz’s flow will keep you wanting more.

Take a listen to Writeous. And stay tuned for our upcoming review of Writeous and an interview with Radamiz!
