The infamous Beatle Paul McCartney took a risky move when working with the provocative Kanye West, but the results certainly paid off. McCartney spoke to Rolling Stone on Wednesday about the 2014 and 2015 collaborations.

The odd couple worked on three songs together, releasing the aggressive “All day,” the country-inspired “FourFiveSeconds,” and the touching “Only One.” The songs combine the best of both worlds: Kanye’s volatile artistry and hip-hop experience, with McCartney’s pleasing melodies and veteran status.

“The only deal I made with Kanye was that if it doesn’t work, we won’t tell anyone,” McCartney told Rolling Stone, “I didn’t know his system. I’d heard things like, ‘He’s got a room full of guys working on riffs, and he walks around going, ‘I like that one.’ It reminded me of Andy Warhol, these artists who use students to paint their backgrounds and things. It’s a well-used technique. I thought, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to fit into that, but let’s see. Here goes nothing.'”

The unlikely duo have a core similarity of success and vision, though Kanye’s unpredictability might have caused McCartney some concern. McCartney pinpointed the creative process that helped their interests collide.

The Beatle also spoke of his inspiration for a riff, that become the whistle in “All day.” McCartney got the idea from looking at a Picasso painting “The Old Guitarist.” Kanye’s next album, The Life of Pablo, is another example of their similarities — an admiration for the revolutionary pioneer of cubism.

“Kanye was just collecting things,” he said. “We weren’t going to sit down and write a song so much as talk and spark ideas off each other. It was only when I got this song, the Rihanna record and ‘Only One,’ the three tracks we did, that I went, ‘I get it. He’s taken my little whistle-y thing.’ It returned to me as an urban hip-hop riff. I love that record.”

McCartney was hesitant to call Kanye a genius, a word that is often thrown around the hard-to-grasp Kanye. However McCartney does comment on the core of what he saw in Kanye, and the potential they had to make music together.

“I think he’s a great artist. Take My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I played it when I was cooking, and it was like, “This is good. There’s some really innovative stuff.”

Although McCartney is one of the most famous rock musicians of our time, he still has respect for hip-hop, calling it  “the music of now.”

While Paul had John Lennon, and Kanye had Jay Z, the two found a new kind of partnership in each other.

A few weeks ago at the 2015 Brit Awards, Kanye West debuted his new track “All Day,” and gave a outstanding performance that left the Internet scrambling for high-quality clips of the song.

Today, Kanye released an official video of his live performance that is chillingly raw and energetic. Yeezy stays true to himself and kills it with the visual elements of his show. Flamethrowers and a huge mob of people in black hoodies is not only dramatic and in Kanye’s style, but symbolize larger political messages he brings to the song – the black hoodies could likely represent the murder of unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin and of the Black Lives Matter movement.

This is arguably Kanye’s best, as the combination between the song’s sick beat, Kanye’s lyrics and the overall strength of the visual performance make you want to play it over and over again. The track also features Theophilus London, Allan Kingdom and Paul McCartney. Watch for yourself below and let us know what you think:

Just days after appearing on Rihanna’s “FourFiveSeconds” last week, Kanye West stopped by the Ellen show to chop it up and premier his visual for the sentimental, Paul McCartney assisted “Only One.” The Spike Jonze directed visual features Kanye and his daughter, North West spending some quality time outdoors on a gloomy day. The visual also has that home video feel slightly reminiscent of Beyonce’s “7/11” visual that broke the internet not too long ago. Check it out below.

It looks like Kanye West has found a new musical buddy in Paul McCartney. After releasing his “Only One” track featuring the legendary Beatle, Kanye West teamed up with him again on Rihanna’s “FourFiveSeconds”. The primarily acoustic guitar track details the complexities that come along with being in a relationship. Kanye West’s dry humor also made an appearance with lines like, “If I go to jail tonight. Promise you’ll pay my bail.” Ultimately, “FourFiveSeconds” is a genius track that combines the talents of the some of the biggest stars from 3 different genres, which will inevitably widen their already huge fan bases . With almost an hour before 2014’s closing Kanye West released “Only One” featuring Paul McCartney. On the heartfelt track Kanye voices the words of his mother Dondra, who reminds him that even though she is gone physically she is always supporting him and watching from above.

Among the things that Donda reminds her only son this stands out, “Hello my only one remember who you are, no you’re not perfect but you’re not your mistakes.” As the song goes on his voice fades, and the instrumental takes on the soothing sound of a lullaby as a way to pay tribute to West’s only one–North. Paul McCartney is a Jay Z and Kanye West aficionado.Last week, the English legend talked Hip-Hop on twitter while promoting the reissue of Wings at the Speed of Sound using the hashtag “#askPaul”. McCartney named Hov and Kanye as his favorite gig he has been to (but didn’t play in.) It seems that McCartney’s love for Hip-Hop has been growing since 2013. Back then, he discussed having Hip-Hop feature on his track, “Appreciate.” Recently, in August 2014, there were reports that him and Kanye were working on a collaborative song for Kanye’s upcoming album.
