New Video: Vic Mensa – “Lovely Day”

Our playlists have barely had a moment to recover since Vic dropped “YNSP,” the Chicago sing-rhymer’s anthemic theme song, and already he’s popped up again with “Lovely Day.” This is, far and away Vic‘s most accessible release from the upcoming INNANETAPE (September 30). With a quick, lively instrumental cooked up by Vic himself and consistent connect Peter Cottentail, and his typically jumbled, layered flow, Vic is coming with high energy and high spirits. “Lovely Day” is sunshine music. The freewheeling video, featuring a sly nod to earlier INNANETAPE release, “Orange Soda,” takes us through a speedy, lighthearted, shroom-y day in the life of Vic Mensa. New Video: Vic Mensa – “Hollywood LA”

Chicago’s next to blow, Vic Mensa, has dropped the crisp, ’90s-but-lonlier video for the upcoming INNANETAPE‘s third single, “Hollywood LA“. You might know him from Chance The Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses”, or from defunct full-band outfit Kids These Days, or from his two other most recent singles, “Did It B4” and “Orange Soda“, or even from our exclusive, thoughtful, funny interview with the man himself. But in 4:08, you’re going to know him for “Hollywood LA”. This video, which contains Vic smoking, driving, and singing to his girlfriend, as well as a few gorgeous crane and plane shots of Hollywood and a mansion befitting a rising star, is greater than the sum of its parts. The SAVEMONEY rhymer flies us out to his world of pain, meditation, celebration and freedom as the ultra-smooth hooks, bridges, and twisting verses coincide with the bright, open air shots of sunny CA. Vic‘s PR man expressed extreme gratitude towards Trevor Kane, the video’s director, for making their ’90s-big-budget-esque vision come to life–he’s the reason for this video’s leap in quality, professionalism and scope over Vic‘s past pair of videos. That’s not to say the past efforts were weak. It’s to say watch this video.

New Music: Vic Mensa – “Hollywood LA”

Chicago’s Vic Mensa has just let loose the third single from his upcoming mixtape, INNANETAPE, following “Did It B4” and “Orange Soda“. “Hollywood LA” has, admirably, very little in common with either of the first two singles, which also are drastically different with eachother–clearly, Vic wants to make his versatility known. Two things ties each of his latest joints together, though: Vic‘s earnest, honest content and his over-flow– the way the rhymes pile high and pretzel through each other. Produced by I Am Cam and Tae Beast, featuring the always silky Lily K, “Hollywood LA” is just the latest in a string of reasons to get hip to Vic Mensa, who tweeted that the accompanying video would be wild.
