Move over  Lil Nas X, because a new wave of country trap artists are emerging. Meet Mississippi recording artist Fly Rich Double. With over 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, this rising star is well on his way to the top. His hit singles “Big Boom” and “Yup (On My Tractor)” gives him an edge on the other rising stars coming out of the deep south.

Fresh off the release of his high-profile debut EP, the new sensation talks with us in a candid interview on his rise, how Lil Nas X helped his sound, and what’s next for the bonafide star. Check it out below.

Respect: Where does the name Fly Rich Double originate from?

Fly Rich Double: When I was a kid my nickname was “Mike Mike”. As I grew, I felt like it was to kiddy to call myself “Mike Mike,” so I changed it to Double referring to “2” Mikes Fly Rich is just icing on the cake.

Respect: With a unique style of music, tell us about your musical inspirations growing up?

Fly Rich: I never wanted to be a rapper. It just happened one day and I got lucky.

Respect: If you could define Mississippi Hip Hop, how would you explain the southern style to the world?

Fly Rich: Mississippi is one of the most underrated states when I come to Hip Hop. Southern style music gives life to the soul.

Respect: While many may feel you are copying a wave due to the success of Lil Nas X, you’ve been making music a bit longer than the “Old Town Road” creator. Tell us about your musical background?

Fly Rich: Honestly I created yup on my tractor on accident. Lil Nas X made an incredible song and promoted right that is all.

Respect: Also known as the Trap Cowboy, how did you discover and design your own sound?

Fly Rich: Growing up in Mississippi everybody is country. All you see is acres and acres of farmland. You grow accustomed to the country lifestyle if that’s all you grew up around.

Respect: Your biggest hit, “Big Boom” is both comical and catchy, how did the concept come together?

Fly Rich: With the help of my little brother we created a masterpiece.

Respect: Did you know “Big Boom” was going to be a hit?

Fly Rich: Honestly I did. I told my managers as soon as I finished writing it.

Respect: While there are some similarities, have you gotten a response, comment, or reaction from Lil Nas X on “Big Boom”?

Nope. When he signed his record deal the label made him unfollow me I’m pretty sure of it.

Respect: How do you feel knowing some of today biggest recording artists like JuiceWrld are fans of your Country Hip Hop style sound?

Fly Rich: It feels great for someone to finally just give me a chance just try something new for a change.

Respect: Do you feel Lil Nas X’s success to bring Trap Country to the mainstream benefits or hinders your success?

Fly Rich: Success. Because people respect it more. Like these kids can make you a superstar who cares if adults don’t support you?

Respect: You just dropped a new EP https://open.spotify.com/album/0dmONewYoZl3OCouDai7Pa The Hickhop Album last month, tell us about the recording process for the project?

Fly Rich: A very fun project to work on. Loved every second of it wish I could have dropped more of my music but they’ll come on a later date.

Respect: How do you plan to maintain relevance with your musical style and not be considered just a 2019 facade?

Fly Rich: I’m thinking about doing another album. And I have an idea to do a nursery song for kids. Stay tuned.

It really has been 9 years since we last heard Trina on her fifth album Amazin’; now, the Miami Rap veteran is back with a new body of work titled The One, which sees 15 new tracks and a slew of assists from peers old and new (DJ Khaled, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Plies, Boosie Badazz, Dave East, Rico Love, K. Lil Nas X – 7

Lil Nas X. A name that’s pretty much taken over music in its entirety thanks to the massive success of the runaway Country-versial hit “Old Town Road” (and its Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted remix). Now, the Atlanta star looks to keep his momentum going with 7, an EP presumably named for its number of tracks. In addition to the aforementioned remix, the project also sees another collaboration with “Rodeo,” which features Cardi B.

Youngs Teflon – Tears

Youngs Teflon’s new project fully comes together this weekend. Last week and the week prior saw the release of two EPs, Blood and Swagg, which turned out to be two thirds of a fully body of work titled Blood, Swvgg & Tears, which — with the obvious addition of Tears — is now available in full for your enjoyment. Altogether, you get 16 tracks and a single feature from fellow Londoner Avelino (“Juice”). Check it out below.

Gucci Mane – Delusions Of Grandeur

Even with a lesser output these days, Gucci Mane has continued to deliver a consistent level of tunes since 2005’s “So Icy.” His latest attention to the collection has arrived in the form of Delusions Of Grandeur, which acts as the Atlanta rapper’s fourteenth official album (and not his 105th like I had guessed). Features on the 18-track offering include DJ Drama, Peewee Longway, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Uzi Vert, Rick Ross, Young Dolph, Justin Bieber, Lil Baby, Gunna, Meek Mill and more. This is how you win at life, no? Last December saw the release of Lil Nas X’s viral single “Old Town Road,” a track that shot up the charts and showed the possible progression of Country music — except that outlets (including Billboard) didn’t think that it was Country music. We wonder why.

“When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

Undeterred, Nas X then hit them with the ultimate hee haw by getting motherf***in’ Billy Ray Cyrus on the remix, effectively cementing his stake in an evolving genre. The track bangs like hell, too.

The Audiomack stage set the bar high, having heavy hitters Juice Wrld, Wiz Khalifa, and Curren$y to perform. Additional performances fromRick Ross, Kevin Gates, Gucci Mane, Lil TJAY, YG, Young Thug, Lil Dirk, Meek Mill, Saweetie, Young MA, and YBN Cordae was the icing on the cake.

As this music excursion seen over 180,000 attendees this year, this festival has become the biggest music event to hit Miami! Audiomack CMO David Ponte says that “it is the biggest hip hop festival in the world that provides a platform for new artists as well as global superstars.”

One new artist that sent shock waves through the crowd is Lil Nas X. As he is currently the number #1 artist in the country music, he sat down with the Audiomack podcast for a dope interview. He graciously discussed doing hip hop and country, having a hit record, what it meant to perform at Rolling Loud.
