Ever since 2015, Rich Homie Quan has been quiet after dropping his full-length project DTSpacely Made This. However he has been still catching the attention of the media with his famous stunt, the one where he “punched a bouncer and then escaped on a boat.” Soon after the Atlanta rapper was sued and is now going to pay up for the alleged March 2015 incident.

TMZ reports that Rich Homie has reached a settlement with the bouncer and will be paying up a handsome amount of $60,000.

The bouncer’s legal team issued the following statement:

“That’s one expensive punch and hopefully it’ll send a message — to not just celebrities, but regular people — you can’t go around punching people,”

The rapper’s lawyer, Ricardo Corona, insists that his client is innocent and did not assault anyone that night. He boiled the $60,000 payoff down to “simply a business decision.”

Long standing Hip-Hop MC Lil Wayne is caught up in yet another financial situation, this time in the form of a lawsuit from American Express.
The rapper has released a substantial amount of albums in the past and will surely continue to do so, which means his net worth of approximately $150 million dollars will only continue to rise, making AMEX’s $80,000 lawsuit and his $2 million for a private jet, almost look like pocket change.

No, it’s not Lord Finesse again, but Mac Miller has been hit with another $10 million lawsuit. This time, the suit was filed by Patrick Berlinquette, also known as Warm Speakers. Berlinquette claims his song, “The World Around You,” was sampled without permission on Miller’s “Fuck ’em All” off his Macadelic mixtape. He went on to say:

“[Miller] uses other people’s music because it’s easier, cheaper, and faster than creating his own. Miller seeks to capitalize on the common misconception in Copyright Law that people whose music he takes have no remedy if he gives their music away for free.”

Miller has yet to respond, although he did give a Twitter shoutout to Warm Speakers back in June.

Shout out <s>@</s>warmspeakers for the song we sampled on Fuck Em All.

The most closely watched lawsuit in the music industry asks this question: how much should a song on iTunes or another digital music service be worth to the performer?

The suit reached its apparent end last week when the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal, letting stand a lower court’s decision that digital music should be treated as a license. Lawyers and music executives say that few younger artists are likely to be affected by the decision because since the early 2000s record companies have revised most of their contracts to include digital sales among an artist’s record royalties. Eminem’s first contract was signed in 1995.

Many older artists, however, whose contracts predate digital music and have not been renegotiated, stand to profit significantly from the decision.

“This is life-changing,” said Joyce Moore, the wife of Sam Moore of Sam & Dave, the duo that had hits in the 1960s like “Soul Man.” “If we were being paid a nickel a download, as opposed to 35 cents — that’s a huge amount of money for a guy that is on a fixed income or has to run up and down the road at 75 years old.”
