Janelle Monáe – Dirty Computer

As it’s been gradually revealed, Janelle Monáe‘s third studio album Dirty Computer isn’t just a new collection of genre-bending music, it’s a profound statement for equality. Released via Bad Boy (forget she was signed to Diddy), Dirty Computer was preceded by singles “PYNK,” “Django Jane,” “Make Me Feel” and “I Like That” and sees additional assistance from Beach Boys‘ Brian Wilson, Grimes, Zoë Kravitz and Pharrell Williams (members of Monáe’s Wondaland collective also help out with the project’s multilayered production).

Even after the chart-topping, 21 Savage-assisted “Rockstar” and the well-received “Psycho” with Ty Dolla $ign, it almost feels like Post Malone‘s official follow-up to the successful debut Stoney is rather anti-climactic (with some Yeezus-style promo to boot, apparently). Titled Beerbongs & Bentleys, Post’s sophomore effort — which is already at Gold Platinum status — sees 18 tracks and additional appearances from Swae Lee, YG, G-Eazy and Nicki Minaj. Big news for Janelle Monáe fans: the star actress and musical genius is back with a new album titled Dirty Computer, her first official drop since 2013’s The Electric Lady. Check out the trailer:

Now, fans get their first taste of the forthcoming release by way of two singles/visuals for “Django Jane” and “Make Me Feel,” both of which can be viewed below. Also added: Monae’s interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, where she broke down the meaning behind the new album:

I actually had this title on this concept before my first album The ArchAndroid, and it scared me because a lot of the things that I knew that I needed to say were very deep, very personal, from the heart… This is an extremely vulnerable album and it took me a while to make it because I’m a self editor.

When Terrance Sims asked Ambrielle-Baker Rogers, Morgan Coleman and Miah Bell-Olson to participate in a Black History Month project at Milwaukee College Prep, I’m sure he had no idea that one of the projects would go viral. Per Jerrica Rogers, mother of Ambrielle Baker-Rogers– who spoke with The Huffington Post —Sims wanted to create a series of posters that positively affirmed the excellence of his students as well as shine light on the beauty of African-American culture in preparation for Black History Month and by looking at the re-created poster above, I would say the mission was definitely accomplished.

The three beauties, who received help from their moms to dress up as the iconic figures, had their photo taken and added to the Hidden Figures poster that features Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae and Octavia Spencer. Rogers thought the picture was so astounding she shared it to her Facebook page and it went viral sparking the attention of Henson, Monae and Spencer. All three women commented on the photo:

The girls enjoyed dressing up for the project as well as seeing the movie Hidden Figures so much so they saw it twice! Talk about getting into character. Hidden Figures is now playing nationwide at a theater near you.
