Following the absolutely-captivating “Insecure” comes the Jaison Blackwater-directed visual for “Arms Reach,” which sees the Bronx emcee-trendsetter enjoying the vibes of Malibu Beach. As usual, the outfit threads are top tier, from the Zebra Yeezys to his own promotional tee (the Off-White socks are a noted touch).

The timing of this clip is sharp. For his latest, New York’s rising star Jae Tips delivers a dope new visual for “Insecure,” which samples Låpsley‘s “Falling Short” (shouts to producer Dizzy Banko) and sees Jae going through the motions with his (beautiful!) significant other — a perfect match for the everyday, very-real feelings that he delivers on the multi-layered record:

…when you realize he corny, and I’m really a boss
He gon’ work for the man, ’cause his drive ain’t a Porsche
When I tell you I love you, you say something is off
When you actin’ hard-headed, I just touch where it’s soft
In your eyes I get lost, you got too much sauce
I be wylin’ I know, it won’t be like before
I be drankin’ and staring hopin’ you walk through that door
If I don’t clean up my act, you gon’ have my back?

I can’t help but smile at the fact that this arrives as the new season of Insecure — a show that addresses many of the same ups-and-downs dealt with in relationships — heads into full swing (hence the initial comment about timing)…nonetheless, “Insecure” is easily one of the hardest, most poignant cuts to arrive in Hip-Hop this year, and needs the attention it deserves.

Enjoy the video below. The track can be found on Jae Tips’ HypeBeast 3, available here.

Rising star Jae Tips has been making a lot of noise as of late, thanks to his unique and straightforward approach to both Hip-Hop and urban fashion — he’s also managed to blend those worlds together via his highly-coveted HypeBeast mixtape series.

For his latest, the New York emcee delivers a visual for “My City,” which sees Tips professing his love for The Big Apple, for better or worse:

You ain’t gotta worry bout it if I got it
I’ma hold you down forever ain’t so hiding
They gon’ catch us out in public but we private
All these n***as wanna leave you but they wildin’
I see you only mess with ballers money pilin’
On that island we done came up from that public housing
It’s something special bout the way that we rock
I love you when you struggle, they just love when you pop…

What’s really dope about “My City” (aside from it’s clever use of El DeBarge‘s “I Like It“) is how he speaks to and about New York like it’s a breathing lifeform — much in the same way as Black Star’s “Respiration.” It’s a level of personification that gives the listener a much more personal perspective of America’s greatest metropolis.

Even better: the aforementioned video — directed by Stoops — adds to the symbolism by honoring the short-lived (but classic) HBO series How To Make It In America, which followed two young entrepreneurs and they worked to launch their own fashion line in New York City against all odds — something that Jae Tips (and many of us) can certainly relate to.

Enjoy “My City” (produced by lucciwashere and Yonaton Watts) below. The song can be found on Jae’s HypeBeast 3, out now via iTunes and Soundcloud.

Whenever an artist grinds as hard as this Bronx-hailing emcee for as long as he has, it’s a surprise that he hasn’t become a Hip-Hop household name yet. With that said, Jae Tips — a name that evolved from a certain St. Louis hit single — continues his onslaught of dope music with the new release HypeBeast 3 (his ninth!), which sees the rapper-fashion entrepreneur unleashing an unrelenting amount of unabashed, straight-to-the-point lyricism over crisp, multi-layered production…it’s like watching one of the realest, most inspiring movies ever for the new generation.

Recently, RESPECT. caught up with Jae Tips to speak on the new project…he also spoke on being a ‘hypebeast’ (and what that really means), his favorite kicks, musical influences and much more.

RESPECT.: How did you get into both making music and the sneakerhead lifestyle? Which came first?
Jae Tips: Sneakers were pretty much forced on me. I can remember being about 5 or 6 years old and my mother and father just spoiling me rotten and going into any sneaker store and always asking the associates for what was new so I got used to being fresh and kids expecting me to have what’s new, so at a early age I cared about maintaining my image.

I got into music just [fitting in] with my friends in high school, because that’s what they did after school…after a few weeks of thinking it was corny I decided to write my first rap and the passion for music grew in me from there.

RESPECT.: Given what I understand the definition of ‘hypebeast’ to be — just wearing whatever brands are hot just because, without any actual thought into style — what’s your take on the term? How does that tie into you using the term for your projects?
Jae Tips: I think from the outside looking in, it’s more then just dressing without actual thought (laughs), and nowadays, anyone who is wearing anything gets called a hypebeast. Some of the stuff I wear, I’m influenced by the designers and creatives, but you can’t stop people calling you a hypebeast, so I’ve given into the term.

RESPECT.: I was admittedly hooked to your music thanks to a rawness reminiscent of an M.O.P. or a Fat Joe. Who would you consider your influences (if any)?
Jae Tips: I grew up heavily influenced by Ghostface [Killah], Big Pun…Kanye [West], Joe Budden, J. Cole. I’m a big fan of storytelling, so those guys helped me through a lot and helped me craft my skills.

RESPECT.: Obviously, your music is way deeper than “hypebeast” culture — even your earlier work contains heavy doses of past reflection and in-depth introspection. How would you best describe your work in general?
Jae Tips: A breath of fresh air, I always moved to my beat, my music has always been a form of therapy, and over the years, the more I’ve lived through, the more I’ve practiced my pen and my raps have continued to explain my current state, through life, politics and self-awareness.

RESPECT.: HypeBeast 3 — how does this new project differentiate from the previous two installments?
Jae Tips: This project is different from others because I’m now completely in control, I’m no longer holding back on personal matters, I’m being as honest as possible even if some things are offensive, and the hand picked production helps my stories come to life in a way better then I feel I’ve done in the past.

RESPECT.: What’s your preferred shoe(s) of choice right now?
Jae Tips: [The] Yeezy 350s, both the first versions and V2…it’s pretty much an all-purpose shoe, I could wear it to a show or to the store and [they’re] super easy to pack.

RESPECT.: It’s our understanding that, at some point early on, you wanted to be a singer. Given the blending of Hip-Hop currently, could you see yourself experimenting with melodies (and even other genres) at some point?
Jae Tips: Maybe as a writer. My passion for R&B is high, but my voice is so bad…I would need too many lessons to get good, but on my whole music, maybe with some Auto-Tune sometime down the line if it’s classy.

RESPECT.: We’re definitely excited to see how you’ll continue to move forward within the music and sneakerhead realms. What’s next for Jae Tips in 2017 and beyond? What’s the biggest thing that you want the listener/viewer to take from you as an artist?
Jae Tips: What’s next for Jae Tips…I will continue to expand in sneaker culture [and] I would like to open a store in the near future. As a listener, something I would want you to take from me is to not conform, be your own hero in your story, everyday you wake up, you should wonder what would Superhero do if he was me and that’s what you should do. Time is precious.

RESPECT.: I must close out by asking: top 5 favorite kicks of all time?
Jae Tips: Air Jordan 17, Air Jordan 11, Lebron 8, Air Max 1 and Air Yeezy 1.

On March 2nd, Jae Tips will be headlining his HypeBeast 3 release concert at New York’s DROM.
Last week, Jae Tips dropped a crazy track titled “Cancelled Christmas“, which saw the New York rhymer-slash-tastemaker going in over production by Dizz. Today, Tips is back with a more-laid back (yet equally-aggressive, seemingly) cut titled “Black America”, which is produced by Himakerdot and sees more of the same, hard-hitting bars that instantly grabs your attention:

Picture me stressin’ over Sallie Mae
Cause I got homies livin’ lavish that ain’t graduate
When I got homies still dying in them alleyways
I’m never going back to school and I won’t hesitate
I traded all them hoop dreams for that Mary Kate
And we gon’ double like them twins on a Saturday, this ain’t that Fuller House…

Listen to “Black America” below…you can also check out more from Jae Tips via RESPECT.’s archives (and Tips’ Soundcloud page). Hopefully, this is a pattern of more music coming in future weeks (perhaps HypeBeast 3 looms somewhere in the near future?).

Some hard-hitting Hip-Hop for your Monday morning: New York footwear aficionado Jae Tips let go of a banger titled “Cancelled Christmas,” which essentially sees the Bronx emcee spazzing out over some ugly-face production courtesy of Dizz:

I rap circles ’round these rap n***as
Y’all ain’t really who y’all say you are, y’all catfishing
I was in the 10th grade, really Saks Fifth-ing
Y’all was still trading cards, that’s why I act different
Yo, man I grew up on a bad block
Had to play the crib ’cause lil’ n***as made the Ave hot
Starting poppin’, now I bubble like a crack rock
My city on smash, I hold the key to that padlock
Y’all ain’t gangsta, y’all be drawing through the laptop…

Tips keeps this intensity throughout the entire track, a perfect match for a percussion-driven beat that would probably fit any top-tier lyricist in the Rap game right now (think JAY Z‘s “D.O.A.” or — for a more comparable lyrical reference — Quadir Lateef‘s “H.N.I.C.”). A remix of this instrumental with Vince Staples or Pusha T would be complete destruction.

Stream “Cancelled Christmas” below…if you like what you’re hearing (and if you’re a true fan of Rap, why wouldn’t you?), you can also check out Tips’ Hypebeast mixtape series (the second installment of which was released earlier this year) and more via his Soundcloud. You’ll definitely want to hear more of both the artist and the producer.
