Fat Joe is known for speaking his mind, so when he stopped by Ebro Darden‘s show on Beats 1 radio with Dre (of Cool and Dre) to promote their upcoming album it was no different.

While on the show, Ebro and Joe began discussing the current state of Hip-Hop and its progressiveness.
Ebro: Culture and things that matter in the moment many times because they are so forward people can see it. It’s too far out.

Joe: Yeah, I know all about it.

The conversation then transitioned to their thoughts and critiques on what needs to be changed in the game and the importance of loving the core of the culture, when Fat Joe pointed out Lil Wayne‘s influence on the new school of rappers.

“You hear all these little kids now who doing hip-hop music. Those is all Lil Wayne’s flows. Every last one,” Joe said. “Lil Uzi is a bad version of Lil Wayne. It’s not as good as Lil Wayne. Just to be honest with you. And he’s good and I like his songs.”

Although the critique seemed harsh, Fat Joe assures that his critique is not from a place of hate, but just an observation as a lover of the culture. Joe stated that he not only likes Uzi’s music but also purchased his XO Tour Lif3 album.

“Lil Uzi I got nothing but love for you. He ain’t as good as Lil Wayne,” Joe continued. “That’s impossible. Lil Wayne was considered — he’s one of the greatest. He’s a GOAT. Not only that he was lyrically considered the best rapper on earth for a couple of years. Lil Uzi Vert ain’t going to get that and it’s with no disrespect because I like Lil Uzi Vert and I like a lot of his records. I cannot front. I actually bought his album.”

To clear up any confusion, Fat Joe made it clear that he is not dissing Uzi, but instead used him an as example to back his argument of Lil Wayne’s influence.

“I didn’t sh** on Lil Uzi. I can’t say how much I appreciate him. I’m just saying Lil Wayne inspired generations of music,” Joe said.

Hearing of the ordeal, Lil Uzi Vert took to Twitter and responded to Fat Joe with a two-worded tweet:

Bad version 😈..

— Uzi London 🌎☄️💕® (@LILUZIVERT) January 24, 2018

In other Fat Joe and Dre news, the duo also stopped by Hot 97 while promoting their new album, Family Ties, and discussed the possibility of having 50 Cent, JAY-Z and Ja Rule on one album and eventually one stage.

“If 50 puts me on his album, I guarantee that I can make him the hottest rapper in the game,” Joe said. “It’s a gift I have. Look, I have been listening to 50 since Stretch and Bobbito, so I know where 50 as an artist is supposed to go.”

Mad Skillz may have hung his MC hat up for turntables, but the veteran emcee kicked off 2018 showing Uncle Murda why he’s listed as one of the most sought-after emcees in Hip-Hop.

For nearly twenty years, fans heavily anticipate the annual year-end “Rap Up” from Skillz which reflects over the previous year, over the last few years Uncle Murda among many others have “borrowed” Skillz concept to recreate their own. However, the G-Unit artist stepped into the crosshairs after he told Power 105.1‘s The Breakfast Club that he and Skillz were “arguing” online over the song.

“I told him, ‘I took your sh*t, homie. You know how Brooklyn do. I took your sh*t.’”

It seems as if Skillz was tired of giving passes because right before he addressed Murda he released the following screenshot revealing that the two were not “arguing.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BdfhEQpnhML/?taken-by=skillzva

Not only did Skillz release the screenshot refuting the claim, but he also used the radio interview clip to open the lyrical thrashing dropping the diss right as DJ Envy asks what Skillz had to say and his response taking us back to 1998 to the Ruff Ryder/Rocafella/Murder Inc. collab “Murdergram.”

The opening verse alleges that in 2015, DJ Clark Kent contacted Skillz suggesting a collaboration between the two after hearing Murda’s version of the song; to which Skillz declined.

“I’m like, ‘Clark. You must be faded / Why the f*ck would I collab’ on some sh*t that I created?’ / Y’all jaded / If you don’t get the f*ck off my phone / And tell that old-faced-ass ni**a to leave me alone / Get gone.’ Clark you know I ain’t that dude/ yeah I done fell back from Rap but don’t get it confused. Shit lit my fuse/ Yiu wouldn’t call Hov and say 21 Savage wanna do 22 2s.”

The diss goes on stating that Murda signed to G-Unit 10 years too late and aims at his project Respect The Shooter, which was released after Murda was shot. Skillz also drags the former Roc-A-Fella artist pointing out that he isn’t a Top 20 Brooklyn bred MC before going on to list Brooklyn spitters M.O.P., Masta Ace, Joey Bada$$, Joell Ortiz, Skyzoo and Fabolous as all being the elite.

We are not sure where this will go, but one thing is for certain, it is great to have 2018 kick off with lyrics and a diss for the culture.

Check out the diss and the interview that triggered it below.

After several days of the Ja Rule and Billy McFarland scrambling to make right their botched Fyre Festival extravaganza, 50 Cent takes the time to make fun of his rival (and the president while he’s at it).

Many of us have heard about the chaos that had happened when the promised luxuries of Fyre Festival were never delivered: people paid exorbitant prices for high class amenities and dining, and even more for supposed VIP access to the musicians that were promised to be joining the festival in the Bahamas. Instead, they found large tents, sandwiches presented in carry out boxes, and less than stellar transportation and other accommodations. Many took to social media to either ask for help (those who were trapped on the island) or to make fun of the whole situation as a poorly thought out, poorly executed, and overly advertised disaster. Ja Rule’s apology included the line, “I truly apologize as this is NOT MY FAULT… but I’m taking responsibility.”

50 Cent was part of the latter group, making a post on his Instagram that took a shot at his rival. As you can see posted below, he had a screenshot of Donald Trump typing on a laptop with the words “appoint ja rule as secretary of festivals” superimposed over it. While not overly inflammatory, it’s clear that 50 Cent is taking a crack at the qualifications of Ja Rule when it comes to making festivals, and in this case, the results may just speak for themselves.

Right before the turn of the century, the hip-hop world as a whole was very excited for what we thought would be one of the biggest supergroups in the genre — Jay Z, DMX and Ja Rule joining forces as Murder Inc. Seemingly solidifying that union was a memorable XXL cover, along with the classic collaboration ‘It’s Murda’ from Ja Rule’s debut album Venni Vetti Vecci. Let’s not forget the trio’s appearance on Mic Geronimo’s (remember him?) Time To Build. Anyways, as quickly as the hype grew, it seemed to dissipate just as quickly as each emcee continued to rise as icons of rap in their own right…

…fast forward to yesterday. DJ Khaled is the opening act on Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour, and they were in East Rutherford, N.J. for the final date. As with previous stops on said tour, Khaled is never one to take to the stage without bringing some big names along with him (whether it be worldwide chart toppers or hometown heroes)…this time, he brought the magic backstage:

The above image is Khaled standing alongside the now-mythical group, which is crazy given the jabs that each have thrown at each other in the last 15 years (specifically, DMX’s comments about his former Def Jam boss, as well as his jabs to Ja Rule). The only thing that would’ve been more major (Khaled’s voice) is if these three get in a studio to create something today.

Check out more pics and short vids of the epic reunion (and more) below.

May 21, 1972 was the day that the world was gifted with a legend. Christopher Wallace aka Notorious B.I.G. blessed hip-hop with a talent that nearly none have been able to match.

With intense and complex flows, Biggie delivered tales from the hood in a way that made you feel as if you were there with him every step of the way. The ultimate story teller, B.I.G.’s influence and lyrics have been sampled and quoted by a variety of hip-hop, R&B and pop artists including Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Fat Joe, Nelly, Ja Rule, Eminem, Lil Wayne, The Game, among many others. Although his career was cut short after 3 years in the game, hip-hop fans were laced with two dope albums and a myriad of features that have continued to compete on “Greatest of All Time” lists for more than a decade.

In celebration of the life and birthday of Biggie, RESPECT. is listing some of his top classic songs that not only have led to being quoted by other heavy hitters in the game, but also still keeps the party jumping.

“Juicy”

Notorious B.I.G officially arrived on the scene with the first single off of his major debut Ready to Die, literally kicking in the door with lyrics blazing. Utilizing the soulful sample of “Juicy Fruit” by Mtume, Biggie told his life story in a way we all could relate, catapulting him to instant fame and being noted as the next to become one of the greats.

“Big Poppa”

The follow up to “Juicy,” Biggie once again changed the game introducing the player mafioso style to the masses in a way that only he could. Over a sample of “Between the Sheets” by the Isley Brothers, Biggie made the big guy with verbal skills sexy, as the self proclaimed “ugly as ever” emcee showed that you don’t have to be a model to get the ladies to show you love.

“Who Shot Ya”

Despite the rumors of this being a diss toward Tupac, “Who Shot Ya”( which Diddy explained was recorded prior to the infamous Quad City Studio shooting) burned up radio airwaves and DJ mixes. The track, which was considered an instant classic, is credited by Jay-Z as inspiring him to get serious about his career due to the lyrical gems dropped.

“Story to Tell”

“Story to Tell” is hands down one of the great examples of Biggie’s ability to tell a great story. His recollection (no matter how embellished it may or may not be) of a creep turned accidental robbery left hip-hop fans guessing for almost twenty years on who the NBA player was in the story. It wasn’t until recently when Fat Joe revealed the true identity of the player, as former New York Knicks Forward, Anthony Mason.

“Warning”

Another example of Biggie’s story telling ability, “Warning” chops a sample of Isaac Hayes classic “Walk on By” and makes it a hip-hop classic and a track on everyone’s soundtrack for their haters. The story telling style coupled with mic passing rhyme style introduced fans to yet another side of the Notorious B.I.G’s talent and creativity.
