“Boston Strong” isn’t just a saying its a lifestyle, Avenue, walks us through his journey painting a portrait through vivid description and imagery. The South End native has only been expanding his lyricism and wordplay separating himself apart from his constituants. Avenue is one of the few who seem to be rising from the ashes like a phenix, putting the myth that Boston has met its dying breed of artist.

With the recent release of his album Mass Ave & Lenox, Ave’s pen game shows to be quite deadly presenting us “Bars” at its finest. Giving us a preview of the potential that this album, Ave dropped the music video for “Ain’t S*** Funny.” The album features Royce 5’9, Smoke DZA, Ariez Onasis, Deon Chase & Prano. From the bars to the beats you have to give homage to production which was handle by Cooking to Kill (Frank The Butcher & The Arcitype), Dj7L (Czarface), Joe Cutz, Latrell James & Tedd Boyd, D. Sanders, OG Wally West & Sauve Beats.

Putting sweat and tears into each bar is apart of the building blocks of ascension, until you find yourself you’ll never know what you were meant for. Luckily for Avenue he found himself embodying the soul and aura of Boston. Through precise lyricism and punchlines on his record “Mass Ave & Lenox” proves to show that everything isn’t what it seems in this cold world. One must fend for themselves if they every choose to make it out from where they originated from.

You can purchase Mass Ave & Lenox on iTunes & view the video for Ain’t S*** Funny Above.

Stepping outside the typical norm of music videos, ZOOLAY, presents us with new visuals for the remix of “Bars & Noble.” For those who aren’t quite familiar with ZOOLAY, the hip-hop group was formed in 2006 and is made up of two MCs, Don Ron and Illz One who are both based out of Los Angeles. The remix was listed as a bonus track off of his album Undeniable, which is made up of 16-tracks that features Trek Life, Roc C, Blame One and LMNO and was produced by Dibia$e.

Being influenced from the golden era of music, each MC on the record shows off their individual flows over a boom-bap influenced instrumental. Being slept on is the worst especially in a industry where gaining the attention of the ears of others is easier said than done. Through proper decision making, ZOOLAY has pushed countless other videos off the album ensuring that the public eye doesn’t count them out.

You’re able to purchase the album through iTunes and can also stream the album below as well as viewing the “Bars & Noble” video above. Tell us what you think!

Abstract and Landlord have an adoration for the 90’s sound, and ‘Rockstalgia’ is a sonic representation of the vibe they’re curating. ‘Rockstalgia’ is a 6-track collection where the two European creatives (Jace from Switzerland and Robin from the Netherlands) embody a retrospective take on Hip-Hop; somewhat of a musical time machine that transplants the listener to a specific era, that era prophetically being the 90’s. Robin Da Landlord’s Boom-Bap aesthetic on record has a grass-roots feel to it, capturing the essence of the rhyme and doing so in a manner that translates an older, seemingly forgotten sound to todays market. Jace Abstract’s hard-knocking punchlines and wordplay lend way to a deeper, more emotionally contextual sound. Cuts like ‘Sin City,’ ‘Mad World’ and ‘Think Back’ act as insightful narratives, where tracks like ‘Listen‘ and ‘One‘ are more lyrical exercises, emphatically delivered bars allowing Jace to lyrically flex on record. Dropping on Below System Records, ‘Rockstalgia’ is a modern day revival of an antiquated sound lost in the pages of rap history. The producer/rhymer paradigm created by these two European hopefuls is evident in the fact that the music is not only moving, but also reminiscent of a time where it was lyrics above all else. Stream ‘Rockstalgia’ below and make sure to download the EP on iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play.

What happens when a powerhouse DJ and a lyrical heavyweight join forces? You get Statik KXNG. Static Selektah and KXNG Crooked announce release date, artwork, and tracklist for upcoming joint album. Individually, Selektah and Crooked’s discography speak for themselves, but combining a profoundly influential DJ and 1/4 of Slaughterhouse can only lead to something special. The album is slated for a 2/12 release on Penalty Ent./Showoff Records along with a new single, “Everybody Know” dropping tomorrow. All hail the king(s).

Tracklist:

1. I Hear Voices
2. Magic & Bird
3. Lost A Fan
4. Everybody Know
5. Dead Or In Jail
6. Stop Playing
7. Good Gone Bad

Reks over a Superior beat? Count us in. Count yourself in for that matter.

The German producer/DJ had a hell of a run this year, with the release of his instrumental Scenes LP. If you’re not familiar with Superior, we heavily suggest you checking out his soundscapes and wrapping your head around this collaboration afterwards (via Below System Records). Peace and love.

This record is yet another example of what’s being cooked up in our nations capital. Night moves.
