Austin Royale, Well$, and Frais construct sonic unrest on “Nevermind.” Having taken a sixth month hiatus, the North Carolinian rapper/producer returns with a record whose musical capacity indicates substantial growth. Enlisting the help of promising up and comer’s Well$ and Frais, coupled with rock-like, alternative-minded production from Ronny J, “Nevermind” impacts greatly; combining memorable appeal and aggressively channeled musical rage that offers insight to the grind of the late nights and shines a promising light on North Carolina’s music scene altogether. As he gears up to release PLAN/A later this year, the now LA transplant’s reinvigorated focus on the craft is evident. “Nevermind” feels innovative to say the least. While Royale, Well$, and Frais aren’t the first to dip their toes in the alternative rap pool, “Nevermind” seems to steer fully clear of genre melding, hatching what hopes to become a household and signature sound, truly displaying all three artists’ creativity and mindset. If you’ve been keeping up, you know that Charlotte’s Frais is no stranger to our radar. Rather you’ve seen him perform at ‘The Smokers Club’ alongside rappers like Joey Bada$$ and Smoke Dza or have vibed to “Hunna” a couple times, or just hip to the culture scene amongst Charlotte, you’re no stranger to the rapper.

Just a month ago the artist dropped his new single entitled “WRKNG” (prod. by Simon SMTHNG) on Soundcloud which received over 50k plays. After a lot of reactions with the single, he recently graced his fans with a release to the visual; directed and produced the very talented, Kyle Rodgers. In the video, Frais is rocking with 006SET member Fendi Benz , helicopters and other fly sh**(I cant tell you every detail cause that’s the point of peeping the video). Key lines you might need to know if you haven’t gotten familiar yet might go something like: “These ni**as hating’/ but I aint tripping’/I’m bout this money boy/I’m trying to change my living’.” Or maybe, “My momma praying for me when she go to church/my plug waiting on me sayin’ he got the work.”

On top of releasing his new visual (which you can peep below), the Charlotte talent recently made a cameo appearance in Uzi‘s latest video for “Games”. From what we can tell by the singles and flawless visuals alone thus far in the year, the rapper isn’t just out here for show but really is putting in the work for all of the earned attention. Based off songs such as this one, “1000 pt.2” and “The City,“ it’s pretty obvious that he’s well rounded and a versatile rapper. Personally I’m ready to see what’s next for this rapper and what his next move is going to be. In other words, this is definitely an artist to keep watch of.

This weekend David Wept and Facecard Agency present the Death To The Normal pop-up show that will feature rappers from Carolina that have been on a crazy move lately. Not only will JK The Reaper be in the building, but also Charlotte’s Frais (who will be performing at the Smokers Club event on December 22nd along Joey Badass and Father) and Raleigh’s Austin Royale. In addition to these Carolina acts, C9’s Sdotbraddy will also be performing with some very special guests. Be sure to not miss out this Saturday, Dec.12th. Carolina vs. everybody.
