Austin Royale, Well$, and Frais construct sonic unrest on “Nevermind.” Having taken a sixth month hiatus, the North Carolinian rapper/producer returns with a record whose musical capacity indicates substantial growth. Enlisting the help of promising up and comer’s Well$ and Frais, coupled with rock-like, alternative-minded production from Ronny J, “Nevermind” impacts greatly; combining memorable appeal and aggressively channeled musical rage that offers insight to the grind of the late nights and shines a promising light on North Carolina’s music scene altogether. As he gears up to release PLAN/A later this year, the now LA transplant’s reinvigorated focus on the craft is evident. “Nevermind” feels innovative to say the least. While Royale, Well$, and Frais aren’t the first to dip their toes in the alternative rap pool, “Nevermind” seems to steer fully clear of genre melding, hatching what hopes to become a household and signature sound, truly displaying all three artists’ creativity and mindset. With PLAN/A looming close to it’s release date and…wait…never mind, just listen below.
