And this brings us back to honesty. It’s a broad term. Does the average listener today value an honest artist? True, transparent lyrics don’t necessarily come a dime a dozen. But when they do it is special. It’s crucial in fact, in the midst of illusion and hyper-fantasy that we hear often on the mainstream side.

With that comes New York emcee Danny Matos, here with the second leak off of his forthcoming ‘The Hangar EP’ (01/08). If you missed the RESPECT. Magazine premiere of his first “New Genre” release, you should probably do that now. Rusty Mack, handling the production on the entire EP, provides  incredible canvases for Danny to work on. Their chemistry is undeniable and the whole project was recorded together – yet another commendable note.

Following in 50 Cent’s footsteps, Jay-Z has launched his very own Facebook game called “Empire.” The game, resembling Hov’s own life, challenges you to go from street hustler to business mogul.

Players earn points through various ways, such as making a mixtape and battling. When enough points have been racked up, you can move out of the hood into Manhattan.

Listen up NYC, Maffew Ragazino can’t be held down.  He’s been rocking the mic on the underground for a bit, but he’s ready for the hip-hop world to take notice.  Peter Rosenberg–co-host of The Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg Show on Hot 97–has taken to the airwaves to show some love for the Brooklyn spitta, but Ragazino knows his music speaks for itself.  Ragazino dropped his latest project Rhyme Pays earlier today. The album features a few previously recorded joints, but mostly boasts new music from the Brownsville-bred emcee.  Be sure to check this project out.  Another cosign doesn’t mean anything unless people take notice, and to that end, Maffew had some words for his followers on Facebook prerelease:

Best new artist nominee Kreayshawn is in the headlines again, but unfortunately not for her music.  The infamous White Girl Mob took another step in the wrong direction yesterday by posting a video of them clowning around to YouTube.  In the latest edition of how can we piss off the hip-hop world, Kreayshawn and V-Nasty take shots at MMG’s frontman Rick Ross.  Forget that this video looks like a glorified Facebook post, why do these two ladies from Oakland feel they need to be such pariahs?  Rozay is one of the hottest in the game right now, plain and simple.  Between rocking his own joints and signing some crowdmovers to MMG (if you don’t know my girl Teedra Moses, check her out), he’s sure as hell not listening to this trash.  It begs the question though, what’s this all about?  White Girl Mob doesn’t have any serious credibility in the game, and trashing one of its All-Stars isn’t going to help.  In a world where you get by on talent and contacts, White Girl Mob is seriously overstaying their welcome.

As part of their Street Summer series, which runs from August 12-15th and is comprised of events that celebrate street art, hip-hop, and urban culture in the UK (including the TV premiere of Banksy‘s movie Exit Through the Gift Shop), Channel 4 has released a new ‘Street Tag’ application for the iPhone. The app, developed by Brothers and Sisters, allows you to virtually tag any wall or surface with a multitude of spray options, ultimately allowing you to dictate the color, size and wetness of the paint and is appropriately accompanied by the rattling sound of a spray paint can. After finishing, you have the option to share your tag via Facebook or Twitter, or by geo-tagging within the application which will post your piece on a street tag map visible to all users. The app is available for free download via iTunes.

Of course there’s an app for that.
