The legendary DJ Premier continues to stay relevent by mixing his classic-yet-ever-evolving sound with the styles of the new generation. Following dope collabs with Miguel and A$AP Ferg (not to mention, PRhyme), the Gangstarr alum connects with Casanova for his latest drop, titled “Wut U Said???” Premiered via Complex, Premier also used that platform to speak on how this match made in Hip-Hop heaven came together:

“Making decisions from a DJ/producer/fan perspective is always my approach when I make a new joint for an artist. Since the Payday deal is a four-single deal, how do you follow the ASAP Ferg record “Our Streets”? I love hardcore hip-hop so much, which mentally took me into a darker place and I immediately thought of Casanova.”

Looks like DJ Premier decided to put his legendary spin on J. Cole‘s KOD closer (and ode to your favorite 90’s rapper), “1985.” Titled the “1966 Remix,” Preemo took a track that was already immersed in classic ‘boom bap’ vibes and, well, makes it even more so:

I bought J. Cole’s ‘KOD’ LP as soon as it dropped with no warning to the fans; which I too am a fan.

“1985” resonated with me immediately so I asked Cole if I could get the Acapella and do an underground DJ version just for fun.

He sent it and I just pieced some stab samples to keep it on some boom bap shit.

DJ Premier has worked with the greats  like Janet Jackson, Jay-Z and Jaz-O, Mobb Deep, Snoop Dogg and many many more.

While the DJ and super producer brought you hits like D’Evils, one of my favorites and a hit he produced on Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt; the producer has a favorite.

By favorite, we mean his favorite Christmas gift. DJ Premier said that one of his most memorable Christmas gifts was a color TV.

As you know by now, Meek Mill is dealing with the beginnings of a two-to-four year prison sentence for violating his parole. [NOTE: There is now a petition in place in support of the Philly emcee.] What a better time for A$AP Ferg to deliver his latest visual for his latest Meek collab “Trap & A Dream,” which sees the two vibing out in New York with their crews. The clip ends with a message for Ferg’s incarcerated comrade:
