In an rare sit down interview, we get to know more about Pennsylvania’s very own, Deezy Cascone. He talks about his long hiatus from music, his inspirations, his hardships and more! Check out the full interview below!

1. How long have you been making music?

“I actually just started making music again last year after a 6 year hiatus. A lot of shit I had to deal with in those 6 years but before that I was in the music scene for a good 8 years just never knew how to push it.”

2. Who were the first music influences?

“I would be wrong to not mention Pac and Biggie because honestly they made me fall in love with rap/hiphop, but I would have to say my 2 biggest influences would be Joe Budden and Styles P. I been a fan of both since day one.”

3. In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

“Let me start by saying most people measure success by the amount of money you have. I don’t. Again I’m gonna sound a little bias, but Styles P. He’s fighting the good fight, not only has he been dropping music consistently and has stayed real through it all for a solid 20-25 years, but he is spreading very influential energy by starting his own health movement with Farmacy For Life. He has a dedicated and loving relationship with his wife , and he’s lost a lot on the way, but he’s still here and thriving. True underdog story if u ask me.”

4. Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

“I’m not too sure. That’s something I’d have to ask my people, but I do know my lyrics and content are quality over quantity based, and I know the producers I work with work equally as hard, so my content and the beats I choose mesh very well.”

5. Do you write your own lyrics? If yes, what do you think about artists who use ghost writers?

“Yes, 100% my own lyrics, I write all of my content. I don’t look down on artists with ghostwriters, but they can never be compared to someone who writes their own lyrics like I do, because the ideas, content, nor the delivery was created by the”artist.””

6. If you could choose to work with some of today’s established artists or producers, to move your game to the top, with whom would you like to collaborate?

Styles P, Meek Mill, Wiz Khalifa, (and) Post Malone. Joe Budden would be my number one, but he’s retired. I got tons more, but those are just a few artists. As far as producers, Araab Muzik, Dj Premier, Swizz Beatz, Kato on the Track, Dre, so many more, but you get the idea.”

7. Name some of your latest songs, videos and/or mixtapes releases that are currently available to your fans; and where can they be heard or downloaded?

“I released a series of singles within the past year, “Back On My Bullshit,” “Animalistic,” “Felon Flow,” “Gone For Too Long,” and my latest I dropped in January called, “Comin Ta Get It.” They can be found on all major digital platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Iheartradio, etc. I have visuals for “Back On My Bullshit,” and “Felon Flow,” as well as some challenges and live performances on YouTube.”

8. Which ingredient do you think is most essential in making your sound and style the way it is?

“The main ingredient in my sound is pretty much keeping it real with the people and not pretending to be something I’m not. That’s a big thing for me, I don’t want to deceive anyone, what u see is what you get. I’m good at staying in the pocket with my flow and that’s important to me as well.”


9. Which emotion more than any other, currently dominates your music? Joy, sadness, anger or passion etc., and why?

“Frustration, passion, with a little bit of guilt thrown in there. It’s all kinds of scattered, but that’s life. I feel different about things daily. I been through a lot those 6 years that I quit, I’m thankful I’m still passionate about it and get a second chance to make music.”


10. What aspect of the music making process excites you most, and what aspect discourages you the most?

“I like the recording process a lot because I get to hear my work come to life. That’s a great feeling of accomplishment. I love the writing process too because its like therapy but its also the most discouraging part because I can’t always get what I want to say out the way I want it, if that makes sense.”


11. How involved are you in the recording, producing, mastering, marketing, and other processes needed to make and sell your music, and do you outsource any part of these processes?

“I’m very involved. I’m there for the whole recording, producing and mastering process, although my engineer/producer is amazing, I don’t have to say much to him, he seems to know what I’m tryin to do every time I step in the booth. Big shout out to Slick Laflare. I work with Cd Baby for my music distribution, much love to Cd Baby. I’m also working with Trillest Ent., they help me out with marketing big shout out to Trillest Ent. as well. Last, but not least, my man Grade E Production, long time friend who helps manage everything from cd covers, music videos, keeping records etc., he’s been there every step of the way since I been back at it.”


12. Do you think the advent of internet and all the new technology has helped your music and independent musicians in general, or do you think it just creates a mass of mediocre of “copycats” who flood the web, making it difficult to distinguish yourself?

“Both. I think that it has helped by giving us opportunities to build something from the ground up without labels. But it still involves money and you have to educate yourself on how to avoid scammers and fraudulent activity ’cause there is a lot of it on the internet. I also feel that it does over saturate the market with tons of nonsense so it’s easy for the real ones to get overlooked. But that’s where your work ethic comes into play and that’s something I’m still working on.”


13. What in your opinion is the biggest barrier for an artist like yourself to gain any commercial success?

“Criticism from the whole world, not letting that get in your head and affect your confidence and how you move. Also being put in a box, being labeled a certain type of artist for example, being called “underground,” or “mainstream,” or whatever. Once you get labeled, the people have certain expectations and makes it hard for you to branch out. And also money, which is a critical tool in staying consistent while trying to get on.”


14. In closing, tell us something about any projects and ideas you have in store or are already working on as well as where people can find your music.

“I’m going to keep releasing singles for right now until I gain some traction, maybe and EP sometime this year. My next single is called “M.F.P (Muthafuckin Prick.)” I don’t have a release date yet, but stay tuned. My music can be found on all major digital platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal , YouTube, Deezer, Jango, Cd Baby etc. Much Love to all my people!”
