RESPECT. Premiere: Tha Jerm Links With Kalipop on New Single – “Ching” (Audio)

Queens, New York and Canada connect on Tha Jerm’s latest offering, “Ching”.

Montreal singer/songwriter, Kalipop, links with SOI’s producer/engineer Tha Jerm, to provide an ideal vibe over perfectly composed production. The pair have worked together in the past on various projects, including Kalipop’s most recent album, NEON, which was exclusively engineered and mixed by Jerm, and also featured his production on several tracks. You may be familiar with his sound in the world of hardcore hip-hop, as Tha Jerm has worked with many veteran rappers such as Dave East, Lloyd Banks, Jim Jones, SchoolBoy Q, Danny Brown, French Montana, Styles P, Jadakiss, and more. This time around, the goal was to deliver something out of the ordinary.

“The first time I met Kali, I knew she was a star. We’ve made many great records, but when I made this beat, I knew she was going to make this one VERY special! Her direction with creating “Ching” reflected on her situation at the time. She wanted to express that money doesn’t judge you like people do”. – Tha Jerm

“Kalipop was dealing with a lot during the recording process of Ching”, says Tha Jerm. “She was feeling really broke and struggling with people judging her without knowing her, you know, like most people” We can see, that didn’t slow her down, nor did it discourage her from creating music to empower others. It’s definitely refreshing to see a young artist develop her own sound, write her own music and remain driven and confident.

“Ching” is now available on all streaming platforms, and will be featured on Tha Jerm’s forthcoming project, Destiny To The Riches, which is geared up for a September 2018 release.

Electric Island Announces Canada Day with Anna, The Martinez Brothers, Jackmaster, Robert Babicz & More

After a sold-out season opener, which saw thousands venture over to Toronto Island for a day of music in the sun, the vibes were high as smiling Electric Islanders scattered about the grounds with two stages to explore, a variety of gourmet food trucks, and a day to remember which kicked off summer 2018.

Ellen Allien brought her Berlin techno to the dance floor, which was both energizing and experimental, YokoO had us in a hypnotic state with his lovely melodic sounds, DJ Tennis gave us an unforgettable selection of music, as the golden hour sunset cast upon festival goers on the dance floor. Black Coffee closed out the Main Stage, leaving a lasting impression on Torontonians. Meanwhile, the Moog Audio Stage transformed into a tech house haven, while Carlo Lio and Nathan Barato played back to back, bringing in a high energy party to their loyal local fans.

New Music: Don Meeno Drops Road Work

Having already built a significant buzz in his native Toronto, Don Meeno looks to up the ante in 2017. The Canadian MC kickstarted his career back in 2012 with the release of his debut project “Rookie Year,” which boasted features from the likes of French Montana and Tory Lanez. In the following years, Don Meeno kept the momentum going with the release of two more projects but now he has shifted gears, looking to showcase his talents to the masses throughout North America and beyond.

Today, he unveils the official video for his new single “Road Work,” which features W5vy Davis and finds the pair trekking the through the snowy mountainous terrain of the north.

On The Rise: Toronto’s Gina Lee Releases Bad Boy Video

Toronto artist Gina Lee is in a groove.

Recently relocating to New York and getting her hands dirty in the studio, the artist from the 6 recently dropped her debut single, Bad Boy. The track features Tory Lanez and is pretty decent.

In addition to her music, Lee has a background in acting and modeling. With her recent move to the Big Apple she’s looking o pursue it. In the meantime, her EP “New York Sessions” is available now on itunes.

Drake signs to Skepta’s ‘Boy Better Know’ label. Drizzy’s support of Skepta, ‘BBK,’ and UK’s Grime scene all together is nothing new, just now a little closer to home. Since Drake performed with Rihanna at last night’s 2016 BRIT Awards, there’s no better time to announce you’re signing to an independent British grime label. The writing was on the proverbial wall when Drake got a ‘BBK’ tattoo on his shoulder last October, but now that the ink has metaphorically transferred from skin to paper, what does it really all mean? Is there a possibility he isn’t ACTUALLY signed? And what impact does it have with OVO sound’s roster moving forward. As the details unfold, Drake’s consistent reign as one of music’s most elite will surely remain in tact. Most likely, (this is purely my speculation) Drizzy’s “partnership” with ‘BBK‘ affords him the chance to further align himself with a major movement from the UK, allowing for more collaborative process, ultimately capturing what’s left of the Grime fanbase that weren’t already fans of his to begin with. Between Cash Money, Young Money, OVO, and now BBK, it’s going to be interesting to watch where (and how) all of the pieces fit. Watch Majid Jordan’s Suave Video For ‘Learn From Each Other’

Majid Jordan has released a suave new video for their vibrant single ‘Learn From Each Other.’ Their self-titled debut album ‘Majid Jordan‘ was released nearly two weeks ago on OVO Sound records and is being received very well. While their lane is still being carved out in the R&B/Pop world, the Canadian duo’s fan-base is rapidly growing (a Drake co-sign will do that).

This visual shows Majid in a velvety lounge gazing upon a young lady in a cocktail dress as she nervously performs. That is until Majid’s girlfriend comes and kisses him on the cheek, then he is reminded he is already spoken for. Majid looks ashamed and when the young lady is finished with her performance, he refuses to give her a round of applause out of embarrassment. If you’re wondering why group-mate Jordan isn’t in this video, he actually makes a quick cameo at 0:24 if you look closely. Layla Hendryx is determined to be Canada’s female front funner for rap. Layla Hendryx releases “Out Of Time”, honing a newer sound to the genre. The Toronto-based rapper shows her musical talents on tracks like “7 Days” & “Runnin” ft. Ca$tro Guapo & shows her smoother side with “Nuh Billie Jean“, Hendryx shows wide range of versatility. The Somali-Canadian seems to be channeling a bit of Soul & Trap elements on the title track “Out Of Times”, which describes the singers journey and her plan to rise to the top.
