Well the time has finally come. We had to say farewell TVD. 171 episodes, 8 seasons and it all came down to this. From the books of L.J. Smith came the TV show that rocked our worlds, took us on a wild roller coaster and changed our lives. The stock of Kleenex has to be through the roof after this epic finale full of magic, love, reunions, loss and the ultimate sacrifice. The cast and crew did a tremendous job giving fans the thank you and closure that we all had hoped for.

The final episode of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ kicked off with Bonnie momentarily dying due to magic overload. She spent a brief time in the afterlife where she was greeted by Elena. Once Elena realized Bonnie had died she immediately wanted her to go back to living. “You’re supposed to be old”. Bonnie reassured Elena that she was ready to die. She desperately wanted to be with Enzo.

Enzo then arrived and told Bonnie it wasn’t her time to die and forced her back into the land of the living where she was greeted by Caroline and Stefan. Her best friend Damon was busy killing Vicki in hopes of stopping her from ringing the bell. After killing her twice he tells Matt that he must convince her to stop ringing the bell. Unfortunately Matt was unsuccessful and initiated a town evacuation.

Damon and Stefan then returned to the Salvatore mansion where they were greeted by Katherine pretending to be Elena. Her short rouse didn’t last long. The Queen of Hell informed the Salvatore brothers that she had taken Elena’s body. Where? “That’s for me to know and for you to dot, dot, dot.” Stealing a line right out of Damon’s playbook.

Turns out Kitty-Kat had Cade wrapped around her finger the whole time. Everything that happened to them was a part of her giant scheme. The race to find Elena before the town was set ablaze was on. Thankfully Caroline stayed behind to help Stefan even though Alaric, the girls and Bonnie made an escape to the armory. Stefan eventually sent Caroline away and then found Elena in the boiler room of Mystic Falls high school.

Unfortunately she was trapped in the school thanks to a spell cast from Kai. His final parting gift. With Bonnie too far away to help, it seemed like Damon and Elena were fated to die together along with the town of Mystic Falls. At the armory Bonnie figured out a way to save Mystic Falls, Elena and one of the Salvatore brothers. She sent Ric, the girls and Caroline away just in case her plan didn’t work out. Bonnie drew the flames of the hellfire through the tunnels of the armory in the most epic fashion thanks to her ancestors.

Making sure Katherine died and stayed that way, Damon compelled Stefan (or so we thought) to leave the tunnels and he would stay behind to stab Katherine with the bone dagger and die along with her. Unfortunately for Damon, Stefan had been dosing vervain and returned to take his brother’s place after he took his own blood and injected it into Damon. Thus, giving him the cure and making him human. Stefan was going to die quickly after removing the cure from his body anyway and wanted to be sure that his brother got to the live the human life he deserved. The life that he took away from him so long ago.

Before Stefan went to the afterlife Caroline called him and said she understood his decision and that she would love him forever. Cue the water works that didn’t stop until the very end. Stefan also made a quick stop to visit Elena before departing from this world for good.

He tells Elena that Damon is the better man and then whispers something else in her ear. Stefan then opened the doors and descended into the afterlife where he was greeted by his red car and his best friend Lexi.

Bonnie, the true hero of this episode, not only stopped the town from burning down but also figured out how to break the sleeping curse and Elena finally woke up. Elena reunited with Damon and Caroline at Stefan’s grave. Elena then told Caroline that Stefan got her message and that he will love her forever too. The group then left trinkets on Stefan’s grave; Damon leaving his daylight ring.

We then jumped into the distant future and learned how everyone’s lives played out:

• Matt is still sheriff and is considering running for mayor.
• Vicki found Tyler in the afterlife

• Bonnie traveled the world
• Caroline and Ric opened their school for gifted children at the Salvatore Mansion that was donated to them by Damon
• Caroline also received a generous 3 million dollar donation from Klaus and a letter that read:

“Dear Caroline, I have often imagined the paths your life might take, but your chosen future is more noble than I ever fathomed. Please accept this contribution to your virtuous cause. I do look forward to thanking you in person, someday. However long it takes. Yours, Klaus.”

Does this mean we will be seeing Caroline in NOLA?

• Jeremy became a teacher at the Salvatore Boarding School
• Jodi found peace
• Liz found peace
• Elena became a doctor
• Damon rebuilt the Gilbert house for her
• Damon and Elena got married (showed by the engagement and wedding band on her finger)
• Stefan achieved piece

The final moments of the series finale showed Elena and Damon’s afterlife as well. Elena was reunited with her mother, father, Aunt Jenna and Uncle John while Damon was reunited with Stefan who was patiently waiting at the Salvatore Mansion. We once again heard the first line Damon ever uttered to Stefan in the pilot; “Hello Brother”.  After a long life each of our beloved characters were reunited with each other once again. They got their promise of peace.

Farewell TVD. The finale most definitely was epic, beautiful and satisfying.

In the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries Damon went from death to limbo (purgatory) back to Mystic Falls then back to death and then arrived in Hell but somehow managed to find his way back to Mystic Falls. It really was one hell of a ride for the elder Salvatore this week.

Damon’s mystical journey began when Kai killed him and took Elena (who is still in a casket) from him. Kai tried to make a deal with The Devil and made sure he had a contingency plan if all didn’t go well. He tried to trade Elena for his freedom but Cade wasn’t biting. Therefore, he offered up (most likely unwillingly as Cade is psychic) the fact that Damon was in possession of the dagger and ash that could kill Cade. This sent Cade down to purgatory to inform Damon of his findings and strike a deal: the dagger and ash in exchange for Elena.

Damon then enlisted the help of his brother Stefan who was just about to leave Mystic Falls for good. Stefan and Damon find Kai singing Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door at a karaoke bar. Thanks yelp! There Kai learns that Stefan is human and attempts to kill him. Before he does he offers up some interesting information. Turns out when you kill Cade (The Devil) Hell also disappears.

The two brothers gather Kai and the dagger and bring him back to the armory to hold him. This turns out to be a big mistake. Kai was able to siphon magic from within the armory’s walls and use that to break free.

Meanwhile, Stefan enlisted Ric to ring the bell and hurt Cade in order to have a shot at killing him. This is of course after he vervained Damon in order to kill Cade himself. Unfortunately Ric had to stop ringing the bell when he got a call from his daughters. Kai broke free and was looking for them in order to finally kill them. Thankfully Ric was able to trick Kai and fight him in order to protect his children. Caroline finished the job by snapping Kai’s neck.

Once again Kai managed to screw up the Salvatore brother’s plans. Cade was able to regain composure and decided to set Elena’s coffin on fire. He then attempted to force Damon to choose between his brother and the love of his life. Damon selflessly offered up himself and stabbed himself in the heart after Cade promised to leave Elena alone forever.

Bonnie arrived during the commotion after sensing Elena was in danger (they are still psychically connected). She discovered that Damon sacrificed himself and took it upon herself to get into a jedi-mind fight with Cade in order to protect Damon’s soul from being claimed by Cade. Cade proceeded to tell Bonnie that if she doesn’t let Damon go she will die because she isn’t strong enough to hide both Enzo and Damon from him. Damon begged Bonnie to let him go but she wasn’t having it. Luckily for both of them Stefan killed Cade and watched him go up in ashes, saving both Bonnie and his brother.

Damon then gave his brother some advice. He told Stefan that he is worth it and worthy of love no matter what he has done. That if even he can come close to redemption after everything he has done in his 150 years as a vampire then Stefan can too. Another beautiful Salvatore brother segment.

Alaric also shared some good news with Caroline. He decided to open up a school for Josie and Lizzie (the twins) and kids like them where they can learn and be in a loving and nurturing environment. He then went on to ask if Caroline would collaborate with him on the project. Now for those that don’t know this Alaric and the girls are heading to New Orleans and joining the cast of The Originals (The Vampire Diaries spinoff). Does this mean Caroline is headed to NOLA as well? Does this mean we will see Klaroline (Klaus + Caroline) come to fruition?!?!?!?!?!

Stefan interrupted her answer/thinking about Alaric’s offer by offering up one of his own. He asked Caroline to marry him once again and she obviously said yes.

Apparently we weren’t finished with Kai in this episode. Bonnie exacted her revenge on the evil siphon by trapping him in his worst fear; a prison world where he is completely by himself and Two Princes by The Spin Doctors plays on loop. Trying to buy his way out of the situation he is in, he informs Bonnie that they now have a bigger problem on their hands. Hell didn’t actually disappear like Kai said. It is still very intact and being run by none other than the Queen B herself KATHERINE! Boy oh boy are they in for some major trouble in the final two episodes of the series.

Joining the land of the living this week was Stefan Salvatore. Unfortunately being mortal comes with a ton of grief/pain and flashes of all the horrible things Stefan did when he was doing Cade’s bidding. Stefan’s escapades in the last couple of months got him in trouble with the law and now because he is human he can’t compel himself out of the situation he is in. Therefore, he is arrested but not for long thanks to his fiancée (?) Caroline. As they exit the jail Stefan and Caroline overhear a little girl reporting her missing mother. The woman was the real estate agent that Stefan attempted to kill. Luckily for the little girl her mother survived by escaping into the woods. Stefan and Caroline find her but not before the woman stabs Stefan, fearing for her life once again.

Caroline feeds the real estate agent her blood in order to save her but when she tries to do the same for Stefan his body rejects it; a side effect of the cure. Vampire blood can no longer heal him. Stefan tells Caroline to let him die. Obviously she isn’t going to and tells him that he needs to redeem himself and fix all the mistakes he has made. After he is all stitched up, Stefan tells Caroline he is unsure about their future. He can’t see himself marrying Caroline because their lives will be different. It isn’t what he wanted. It is what he expected. As usual, Caroline is willing to stay by his side. Will these two work it out or will Steroline be done for good?

Speaking of couples that are over for good (R.I.P. Benzo), Bonnie is grieving the loss of her beloved Enzo and ignoring all her friend’s calls. However, she is reunited with her mother Abby (Persia White) after Caroline gave her a call to tell her what happened. The two begin to lay Enzo to rest but Bonnie stops when she hears Enzo calling out to her. She tells Abby she wants to save Enzo and possibly resurrect him (remember the other side is gone and neither one of them have their witch powers).

Abby hears him calling out as well and the two call upon Enzo to give them a sign. He does. Turns out Bonnie opened a door to where Enzo is. He is suffering and in pain. Abby tells Bonnie they need to bury him to close the door and that it is not Enzo but a darkness reaching out to Bonnie. Bonnie only wants to rescue Enzo and doesn’t care if she gets hurt in the process. She is taken by the darkness which unfortunately forces Abby to set Enzo’s body on fire in order to close the door and save her daughter. She tells Bonnie to say goodbye and let Enzo go for good.

Back in Mystic Falls Cade pays Damon another visit. He wants Ethan’s journal in exchange to allow Stefan to live out his human life before he reclaims his soul. If not Stefan dies at midnight. Damon accepts the deal and heads to the armory to collect the journal. For once Damon was upfront about his motives and deal with Cade. Unfortunately Alaric won’t hand it over and kills Damon (again) in order to stop him.

Alaric, Matt and Dorian lock Damon in a chamber and trigger Matt’s memories to find out what is inside the journal by using hypnosis. We step back in time once again. Turns out the Maxwell’s were working with the Bennett witches and the bell is infused with Bennett witch magic. We also see some of Ethan’s code. He sends a message to Beatrice Bennett that says: “Dear Bea, your courage will save us all” (major foreshadowing!)

Moments later Sybil introduces herself to Ethan and takes him to a room in the armory full of the sirens treasures; the same room where Dorian and Matt found the journal. Selene then arrives and they force Ethan to add the tuning fork to the bell. Sybil also shows Ethan a weapon that can potentially kill Cade. Unfortunately he is sirened to not speak a word about the bell or the weapon that can kill the devil.

Ethan may not be able to say what the siren sisters have told him but can write it. He encodes a message for Beatrice and gives it to her. He begins ringing the bell just as Matt did. Beatrice calls upon the towns’ people for help. The towns’ people sacrifice themselves to keep the hell fire from spreading. Due to the trauma Matt begins to have a heart attack. Damon gives Matt his blood in order to save him.

All the towns’ people die and the bell remains; the blood of 100 souls is on Ethan’s hands. Beatrice then locks the sirens in the cave on the armory. They force Ethan to kill Beatrice if she won’t set them free thus forcing her to lock Ethan in the room in order to save herself. Ethan tells Beatrice that he knows how to kill the devil but he cannot say. Once again he codes it in his journal. Unfortunately Damon steals the journal before Alaric and tow can find out how to do it for themselves.

Damon hands Cade the journal but not before asking if anyone has ever earned their way out. Cade burns the journal and tells Damon he doesn’t want to give him false hope. So that’s a no.

Bonnie finally returns to Mystic Falls and Matt is waiting on her door step. He shares his condolences and Bonnie tells Matt that she doesn’t want to carry on without Enzo. She doesn’t think she can do it. Matt tells her to try and find comfort in the fact that Enzo loved her and will always be with her. He also lets her know that their families are tied together.

Stefan also comes home, only to change, and then plans to head over to Bonnie’s house but he isn’t sure what to say. He asks Damon for advice. Damon says she is a much better person than Stefan and him. She will eventually forgive him but it will take time. Stefan then thanks Damon for saving his life and allowing him to undo the damage he has done. Before he goes he asks Damon if there is a chance for redemption. Damon lies to his younger brother and says absolutely.

Stefan arrives at Bonnie’s house but is tased by someone before he can ring the doorbell.

Damon returns to the armory and says he isn’t apologizing for saving his brother. Turns out the reason Damon gave the journal to Cade was because he already knows how to kill him. He just needed confirmation that the information he had was viable. Damon shows Alaric the relic that has the means to kill Cade. Thanks Sybil! The two celebrate/begin to plan Cade’s murder when they are interrupted by none other than:

KAI PARKER!!!!!!!!!!

Bonnie and the rest of Mystic Falls met Cade on this week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries. Cade started off in the local coffee shop and began unleashing secrets from Mystic Falls resident’s using his psychic abilities. As we learn later on in the episode the workers weren’t the only patrons who were mind-jujued.

Back at the Salvatore mansion Damon whipped up Stefan some pancakes with a side of shade and a sprinkle of sass. Unfortunately before he could deliver breakfast Stefan was released from his prison chamber by the devil himself (Cade). Cade gave Stefan and task and sent him on his way. He then gave Damon a task; kill 100 evil strangers or kill the love of Stefan’s life, Caroline by sundown.

Damon raced to the town center to tell Caroline what happened. Caroline and Matt along with some town’s people are opening a time capsule they found from 1790. Damon lets them know that Cade is now on Earth and that Stefan has escaped. Together Matt and Caroline escort the residents of Mystic Falls to the Mystic Grill in order to protect them.

Damon attempted to plan to murder Cade but turns out he can’t be killed by setting him ablaze or ripping out his heart. He proved that by doing said things to himself in front of Damon. Can the devil be killed?

While this is going on Bonnie decided to go on an adventure with Enzo. Benzo (Bonnie & Enzo) went drag racing and sky diving all before they arrived at their final destination; a bed and breakfast in upstate New York. Turns out Bonnie bought the place with money her father left her and that is where she moved Elena after Damon and Enzo went missing. The cure that Enzo planned on taking is in Elena’s blood.

Damon called Bonnie and informed her of the situation at hand. They must use the cure on Cade to make him mortal and then kill him. Once again Bonnie and Damon must sacrifice their happiness in order to save everyone else. This is when we finally learn what Stefan’s task was. Stefan chose to kill Elena and made his way to Bonnie’s upstate home in order to do so.

Cade mind-jujued Bonnie and figured out Elena’s new location. He then sent Stefan to find a realtor and have her sign the deed to the home in order to invite Stefan inside, thus allowing him to get to Elena. Damon learned of his plan and raced to reach Elena and Bonnie but didn’t make it in time. Stefan arrived at the home and murdered Enzo who no longer was able to get inside (can he come back from this?). He then entered the home and attempted to kill Bonnie who injected him with the cure. Bonnie then rushed to Enzo’s side and screamed in agony. She then regained her magic powers.

• Matt receives another family heirloom from the armory; a necklace

The dilemma between the brothers Salvatore continued in Friday’s (January 27^th) episode. To quickly recap… Episode 9 of The Vampire Diaries left us with the following:

• Damon can push Sybil out of his mind
• Matt’s family is the only family who can ring the bell
• Caroline broke off her engagement with Stefan even after he gave her the striker
• Sybil gave Damon his memories and humanity back
• Bonnie wants to give Enzo the cure

Episode 10 of The Vampire Diaries picked back up on the Salvatore brother’s journey to hell (and hopefully back). The episode kicks off with Damon in a comatose state. The elder Salvatore believes he is physically in hell, forcing Bonnie and Caroline to team up with Sybil in order to get inside Damon’s subconscious.

Once inside Damon’s mind Bonnie and Caroline are greeted by many familiar faces including: Henry (Damon’s civil war buddy that he killed), Vicki Donovan (Matt’s sister who Damon also killed) and Sherriff Forbes (Damon’s best friend whom he DID NOT kill). Damon is hiding within his own mind and reliving his mistakes.

Back in Mystic Falls, Stefan continues his murderous spree and kills Violet not even one day after he turned her into a vampire, while Matt and his dad weld the bell together.

Inside Damon’s mind Caroline encounters her mother who then takes her hostage and tortures her for being a vampire. Caroline only gets her mother to stop torturing her when she admits to Sherriff Forbes that she has forgiven Damon for all that he has done because he was there for her when she died. He was the only one who truly understood what it was like to lose her. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to wake him up.

This left the job to Bonnie who visited her Grams for some help. Bonnie is unsuccessful in finding Damon but runs into Tyler Lockwood. She does however figure out that Damon needs Stefan in order to wake up.

In the tower in the Mystic Falls Town Center Seline tells Matt that he must ring the bell 12 times in order to kill Sybil. Once done a hell fire will unleash and wipe out everything in its path, including the town of Mystic Falls and it inhabitants. This will also allow Cade to come to Earth. Stefan also learns of this plot and compels Matt to ring the bell unless he can forgive Damon for killing Vicki. This forces Matt and his dad to get into a fist fight in order to stop him from ringing the bell. When that doesn’t work Matt tells his dad to kill him in order to save the town.

Stefan then enters Damon’s subconscious and the elder Salvatore finally emerges. Turns out Damon wanted to tell Stefan that he forgives him for turning him into a vampire centuries ago and that he will stop blaming him for all his mistakes. This only enrages Stefan and makes him tell Damon about the town’s impending doom.

This is enough to wake Damon up. Once he emerges Damon kills Stefan and comes to Matt’s rescue before Matt’s dad is forced to kill his own son. After Matt wakes up from a concussion after Damon smashed his head into the bell, Damon apologizes to Matt for killing his sister Vicki. Matt isn’t there yet but he says if Damon keeps heading down this path he may eventually get there. He also let’s Damon know he is going to be the town Sherriff again.

Damon also visits Bonnie and finally let’s her know what he wrote in his letter. In one of the most beautiful scenes of the night, he promises Bonnie that he will never leave her again.

As Damon begins his own journey to redemption, Caroline forces Stefan down his by tying him up in the basement. She is determined to get his humanity back even if it takes Damon and not her, to do it.

Back at a diner, Sybil and Seline try to make amends but fail to do so. As they begin to bicker Cade emerges and kills them by burning them alive. Apparently 11 strikes allows him to surface on Earth. Mystic Falls is in for some hellish trouble.

The mid-season finale of The Vampire Diaries took us all the way back to Stefan’s very first Ripper phase. The year was 1917 and it was Christmas Eve. Stefan murdered an entire village that night and yet he doesn’t remember it. Later on in the episode we find out why.

Stefan wanting his last day as a free man to be ever-so-perfect, begins prepping an extravagant Christmas Eve dinner. On the guest list: Ric and The Twins, Stefan, Caroline, Matt, Peter (Matt’s Dad) and the uninvited duo of Sybil and Damon (who is not dead thanks to his deal with Cade). And boy are they all in for a treat.

But before the fun can begin, Caroline calls Bonnie to warn her and Enzo not to come to the dinner. Instead she sends them out to find the pitchfork.

Damon pulls his brother aside promising to tell him why he is there is he comes and gathers the old Salvatore ornaments with him. Big mistake! Damon stabs Stefan with one of those ornaments and sends Stefan down to have some quality time with Cade. Cade then shows Stefan why he is perfect to serve him.

Back in 1917 Cade saw what Stefan did and decided right then and there that Stefan was his. Seline was also with Cade and when she breached Stefan’s mind she saw that he showed remorse and it meant something to her. She spared his life because she only saw anguish and not evil within Stefan. Seline then wiped the memory of the 1917 massacre from Stefan’s mind in hopes to give him a chance at a good life. Stefan intrigues Cade because he was able to take his best servant and turn her against him. After Seline saw the good in Stefan she no longer wanted to make the decision as to who gets sacrificed to Cade. She also picked up writing down her victims’ names from Stefan.

Bonnie and Enzo arrive at the house where they think Sybil is staying and find Seline instead. She has the pitchfork and is willing to give it to them if she can talk to Ric. Seline tells Ric she needs to remove her psychic imprint from the girls but he wants no part of it. However, a deal is a deal and Seline gives Enzo and Bonnie the pitchfork.

Back at the Salvatore mansion Ric returns to the table just in time to learn why Damon is there. He is planning to kill one of them and give their soul to Cade. Only the worst of them though. Damon is able to get Peter (Matt’s Dad) to admit why he left Matt, his sister and mother behind. He was ashamed and didn’t want to be a nobody in the town of Mystic Falls. Damon found his champion and makes a move to kill him but Sybil needs something from him first. Luckily for Peter, Bonnie and Enzo arrive with the pitchfork in time to save him.

In purgatory, Cade tells Stefan that he ruined Elena’s life when he met her. He tells Stefan that never meeting Elena was the only way to save but instead he selfishly took her down a dark path. That is why he wants Stefan to serve him. Cade wants Stefan to take good people and make them wicked. So Stefan strikes another deal with Cade. He will become The Ripper for one year and get the job done in half the time in exchange for his and Damon’s freedom after all is said and done. Cade agrees to the deal but thinks they won’t want to leave.

Speaking of Elena. Caroline gave Damon a gift earlier in the episode. Sybil opens the gift and it is Elena’s necklace. As Damon puts it around Sybil’s neck he begins to remember Elena. Realizing what Sybil has done to him, he rips out her heart and places it on the bench next to her.

Stefan then comes back to life and kisses Caroline under the mistletoe. He then tells her about the deal he made with Cade.

Ric finally came to his senses at the close of the hour and called Seline. She removes her psychic imprint and memory from the twin’s minds and is on her way. She is trying to redeem herself and repent for her sins. Ric and the girls then leave town just as Stefan does the same.

Damon scoops up Stefan in his car and as they cross the town lines Stefan turns off his humanity switch.

The Vampire Diaries Returns Friday January 13^th, 2017. *THE SERIES WILL RUN WITH NO OTHER BREAKS AFTER ITS RETURN IN 2017. THE 16^TH EPISODE OF SEASON 8 AND FINAL EPISODE OF THE SERIES WILL AIR FRIDAY MARCH 10^TH, 2017. THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY (MARCH 17^TH, 2017) WILL BE THE SEASON 4 PREMIERE OF THE HIT SPINOFF THE ORIGINALS.

Friday’s (December 2^nd) episode of The Vampire Diaries “Detoured on Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell”, brought Cade to Earth in some crappy backwoods motel. The episode, directed by Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore), not only tested the relationship between Stefan and Damon but those of Ric and Caroline, Caroline and Stefan and Ric and Damon as well.

In the last episode, Seline took the twins and headed off to summon Cade. In Friday’s episode Ric was finally able to get a hold of her. After getting nowhere with her, a violent threat seemed to be his only option. However, threating to kill Seline after he got his kids back really didn’t faze her. She does work for Satan after all. Unfortunately for Seline, Ric and Caroline weren’t the only ones hot on her trail.

Matt, Stefan, Bonnie and Enzo were all working together to find the twins and bring them home. Stefan was left behind with the ring he gave Caroline as Caroline did not want him to interfere if she was forced to kill Damon in order to save her kids. Caroline didn’t want any distractions that could cause her to lose the twins again or worse, get them killed.

Before anyone else can find the kidnapping Seline, Damon and Sybil find her and the twins in a dinner out in the middle of nowhere. It is then that we learn Seline’s plans for the twins; she wants to give them to Cade in exchange for her and Sybil’s freedom. Seline sees this as a way of atoning for her sin of making Cade bring her sister back to life and really giving her no choice but to serve him. Either she lives and is an immortal slave or she dies. Anyone would choose to live under those circumstances. No one ever really wants to die.

Well maybe except Enzo who is actually dying from the inside out via Sybil’s subconscious mind torture. Hoping to ease his pain, Bonnie asks Stefan to go into Enzo’s subconscious (something he has never done before). Inside Enzo’s mind Sybil is gutting him for breaking her hold yet again and turning back on his humanity. However, all was not lost. Thanks to Enzo, Stefan was able to see that Sybil was at a diner with Seline, The Twins and Damon. Stefan immediately calls Ric and tells him what he found. Unfortunately he can’t give him the exact location so Ric tells Stefan to go back into Enzo’s mind no matter the cost. He doesn’t care if it kills Enzo. He needs to find his kids and get them away from Seline.

Ric and Caroline had no luck in the beginning of this episode. When they finally get the location and arrive at the diner they discover that Seline, The Twins, Damon and Sybil have escaped.

As their escape vehicle barrels down the road, Damon decides that there is no better time to pick Seline’s brain. We then learn exactly what it takes to serve Cade. One must be supernatural and serve him of their own free will. Damon then criticizes Seline for taking the 4 year old twins. However, she believes she can convince them to serve Cade and save herself from rotting in hell. Apparently hell isn’t a one way ticket if you have the right exchange.

Seline’s escape is cut short when they run into a traffic stop. The officer is stopping all vehicles on the road looking for the twins. Seline uses her siren powers to trick the cop but one of the twins (Josie or Lizzie) isn’t having it. She will not be forced to sleep and she attacks Sybil raising the cop’s suspicion. This forces Sybil to attack and kill the cop to evade the groups’ capture.

A little while later the group arrives at a sketchy motel. Damon, fed up with how slow things are progressing, decides to take charge and gathers everything they need to summon Cade; a body of water and a couple human bodies. Seline is angered by this as she claims the twins won’t be ready for another decade or so. Unbeknownst to her Damon has a plan. He wants to strike a deal with Cade and asks Sybil for her help in doing so.

Stefan goes back into a now unconscious Enzo’s mind hoping to figure out where Seline went. This time Sybil is trying to kill Enzo. Stefan is forced to participate in this subconscious world and grabs Sybil by the throat. She tells him that Damon and she have an offer he can’t refuse but if he wants that offer and her to stop hurting Enzo, he has to come alone to the motel.

The only way Stefan could go to the motel alone was if he gave Ric and Caroline the wrong address. When the two arrive at the incorrect hotel it stirs up some crazy emotions from Ric. He tells Caroline that he is taking the girls away from her and everyone else. Danger and darkness follow her and he doesn’t want to subject his (and Jo’s) kids to that.

Stefan arrives at the right motel and is greeted by a trap setup by Sybil; a test to make sure he is serious about taking the deal. Sybil sirened all the motel members to attack him hoping to force him into killing one of them and make him dark. She wants to make sure Stefan has blood on his hands. That’s how Cade likes them best.

Cade arrives and Stefan is forced to kill one of the motel guests in order to save his life. As Damon watches his brother kill the man with a broken baseball bat, he tells Stefan about his deal and how he can get the twins back.

Back at the pool where Cade emerged Seline is trying to sell the idea of the twins to him. He is intrigued but gets a better deal when Sybil offers the immortal Salvatore brothers instead; in order to save the twins Stefan agreed to join Damon in serving Cade. The twins are then reunited with Caroline and Ric. Shortly after the reunion Ric apologizes to Caroline for what he said. Caroline tells him that he was right but to never throw the fact that she isn’t the twins’ biological mother in her face ever again. She then tells Ric to take the twins away from her and Mystic Falls until this is all over. That is the only way they can protect them.

Back at the Salvatore mansion Caroline gives Stefan an apology of her own. She places his ring back on her finger and learns exactly what he had to sacrifice in order to save her kids. Damon finally gave Stefan what he promised back in season one; an eternity of misery. However, Stefan struck a deal with Cade. He gets to spend his last remaining 24 hours of freedom with Caroline. Will they get married in that 24 hour period or is this the end of Steroline?

Speaking of keeping promises, Sybil finally got her revenge on Seline. Turns out the deal Sybil made only saved herself from hell not Seline. Seline will still have to suffer in hell and atone for her sins while Sybil stays out of hell, immortal and with all her powers. She isn’t finished with the game she is playing yet. Just what does this siren have in store?

At the end of the hour Matt finally decided it was time to fight back. He and Ric find Damon, shoot him and rough him up a bit before killing him. As Ric stabs Damon with a stake he says this is for Tyler.
