Have you ever had a whirlwind romance that ended up bursting into flames? It’s one experience that Brandon Calano, aka Becoming Young, encapsulates in his upcoming album, The Songs I Wrote You.

Brandon Calano moved to Nashville in June of 2019 after he re-organized his priorities to focus on music. His romantic relationship had just ended, and he knew he needed to get away. He quickly became an integral part of the singer-songwriter community of Nashville, playing at showcases and songwriter rounds every night.

“I wanted to share my songs with people,” Calano said. “I was so inspired by early fans I met who told me, I have to keep doing this because my lyrics give them hope.”

After proving himself on the Nashville circuit, Becoming Young was invited to perform in the Top Writer Series, a songwriting competition. Brandon made it through the preliminary rounds and confidently faced the judges during the series finale—that night, he was crowned the winner.

Shortly thereafter, Calano released his first pop song: “Trippin‘.” It has over a quarter of a million streams on Spotify and has been featured on Discover Weekly. The single release launched Becoming Young’s fall 2019 tour, including sold-out shows in Atlanta, Denver, Boulder, Portland, and Seattle.

“The attention the song generated validated my path and helped me get my music off the ground,” Brandon said. “I want to record and release more music as soon as possible—I’m in the zone.”

While on tour, Becoming Young met legendary music producer, Ryan Hadlock (Vance Joy, the Lumineers), and they worked together to produce BY’s upcoming album The Songs I Wrote You. The album weaves together a series of stories about someone who changed the course of Calano’s life.

While the album is in production, Calano intends to release a prequel song: “High.” The single will drop on April 24, 2020—it explores the excitement and elation of a new relationship, blurring the lines of electro-pop, indie pop, R&B, and urban pop. The tune’s sensual hook will make you feel like you’re intoxicated with lust.

“High” is about a guy, who’s usually in control, getting weak in the knees over a hypnotizing woman,” Brandon remarked. “I wrote this song when I didn’t want to fall for someone, but I did, and I had to be honest about what I felt.” The song is an emotional rollercoaster of lust, love and urban pop perfection—it will be included as part of a forthcoming EP, Feeling Single. And the album that follows will pick up where “High” and the EP left off.
