“Wassup Wit It” utilizes a clever “Tempted to Touch” sample to add to the seductive mystique the track gives off. Similar to Rupee‘s 2004 track, Aston Rush and Ye Ali are grasping with feelings of longing, confusion, and temptation because of one woman’s ostensibly mixed or vague signals. “Show me why the last n*gga done fell in love with it” shows the depth of desire and the lack of proper explanation of emotions by the woman at hand.

The instrumental can be likened to the American-dancehall beats that’ve been littering the mainstream in the past year; it’s easy to see this as another jam to be blasted in every basement party across America. The wave of unorthodox upbeat instrumentation in hip-hop (see “Broccoli” or “iSpy”) continues as Aston Rush speaks candidly and audaciously about a “Private Party.” Married to apathy for his “sides,” Aston describes a variety of scenarios in his life with women and people, likening sexual encounters (and any sort of personal interaction) as private parties with him.

The Understudy arranged the production, having previously collaborating with Aston on “Shorty Got Bandz.” The trio of producers introduced an iridescence in their art, departing from the dark, moody aesthetic typical to their work. Crystal Caines track with Ferg, “Whiteline” from two years back is the sonic antithesis of “Private Party.” Aston Rush rides the cheery instrumental with effortlessness and does so with confidence.
