Hot off the heals of releasing his latest single “Mission” this week, Lupe Fiasco is making headlines again as he takes the helm at the U.S. Soccer Men’s National Team (U.S MNT), as their new music director. Fiasco will be handling music programming during the Send-Off Series, where the U.S. MNT will play Azerbaijan, Turkey and Nigeria in the lead up to this year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He will be making appearances at the team’s Fan Appreciation Day at Times Square on May 30 and its Soccer Fan Fest in Chicago on June 16. Fans should also watch for Spotify playlists, created in collaboration with Fiasco’s DJ group the SNDCLSH, to promote the team. U.S Soccer will in turn be supporting “Mission,” a track that shares the stories of cancer survivors and honors the millions worldwide who have lived with the disease. Fiasco’s fifth studio album, Tetsuo & Youth, which will feature both “Mission” and the Ed Sheeran-supported “Old School Love,” is slated for a 2014 release.
