The Europa Graffiti Exposition featured 25 different graffiti and street artists, along with their respective works, at the Pavillon du Carré Baudouin. The event itself was a collaboration between the Paris Hip Hop Festival, which began this week, and the Kosmo Art Tour, the global arm of the Festival Kosmopolite that promotes the creativity and expansion of street art.
The exposition truly demonstrated the globalization of street art as a form with artists coming from Austria, Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Poland, United States, and Switzerland, many of whom were present at the exposition to speak about their work.
TKid170, the South Bronx graffiti artist displayed at the Exposition, told RESPECT. that street art is a medium with an ability to cross every border (nation, creed, race, religion, etc.) and a medium in which everyone participates; he even identified election bumper stickers as a form of tagging. TKid170 got his start in graffiti in 1973 after a local gang spotted him writing his name at a local park–their turf. He was soon recruited by the gang for his graffiti skills only to leave the gang in 1977 and fully commit himself to a life of street art.
