Open Mike Eagle, an LA-based sing-rapper who has self-defined his sound as “Art Rap,” just released this off-kilter new track. On the hook, Mike takes the opposite approach from the average MC–whereas most rappers tout their definitive reign over their region or genre, Mike uses qualifiers: “We the best, mostly / Sometimes the freshest rhymers.” In the verses, Mike speaks on some of the less glamorous aspects of his life, but does so with swooping passion and wit: “Lift your hands, lift your head if your clothes is clean and your kids is fed / Mine potty trained so if he piss the bed, he can tell I’m heated like infrared.” This track sounded great live too.
