On “better in tune with the infinite,” Jay Electronica begins to, gently, address his absence. First, it’s done through a vocal sample of Elijah Muhammad–“If one would hold up such truth as the truth of God to the people, I do think that he’s within his rights to stay out of the sight of the people until he has won everything to himself…” While the rest of the quote covers the same subject, it doesn’t get much less vague. After another, much more mystical quote from Professor Marvel, Jay Elect enters to his signature studio-audience-esque applause, and begins to sermonize.
Jay Elect has never shied away from soul-bearing lyrics, and though he speaks on the difficulty of doing that early–“And it’s hard to trust enough to undress yourself/ To stand exposed and naked, in a world full of hatred”–he finds a beautiful, simple way to present his sadness to us anew: “My brain pours water out my tear ducts to heal me.” Nothing is ever quite earthly with Jay, though the last few lines are crisp and clear–they feel like real, new American proverbs. “The universe is listenin’, be careful what you say in it,” he raps, swiftly interconnecting the world around him. He continues: “The church you go to pray in it, the work is on the outside
Staring out the windows is for love songs and house flies,” foreshadowing, hopefully, the music to come. The Candyman is back, but for how long?
