Hip-hop has always been celebratory and thankful – it was birthed in the projects, after all – but everybody’s celebration is different. Rapping over Hit-Boy‘s amazing “Trophies” beat, A$AP Ferg gives his own thank yous, shouting out his deceased father, his mother, his crew, his goons and everyone else to whom his thanks is due. If Drake‘s version is a “stripper on the mink rug song,” Ferg‘s version is a block party on the street whre he grew up, with all the dead and gone represented on t-shirts and in memories.
